The hype was bound to die down sooner or later and gas prices just are helping out so its no supprize and with lease returns and rental cars starting to come back this will eat into the new car market a bit .

As for owning a new stang this is the first one that I have seen since 1970 that was worthy of the mustang name in my opinion .And being a whole new design I expected a few bugs which were there but nothing that was a recall or safety issue for the car .Now that 06 is here those bugs are out and I agree the shaker 1000 is way overpriced for what you get .

And for the long term I feel this body style is going to be a instant classic in the future and it is a good car I'm pickey about what I own and this car has it all ....power ,outstanding drop dead good looks and its affordable for the price .
If you want to see the difference first hand take a 04 out for a test drive then a 05/06 of the same class ....you will be sold instantly .Thats what I did and I can tell you after owning the car for a year would I do it again?.....YES!

That about sums it up. Unfortunately you know how car companies are. They have a great line, keep it a few years then destory it by redesigning it. And it always looks like crap.

Hartford area update. I went to the high alloc dealers in the area. What looked online to be a lot was not at all. When I got there it was unique option cars like a $30K deluxe with 18" bullitts and no shaker and ADM $900 locator fee. Then there were a couple GT's with ICAP not IUP or none at all. Some dealers here had autos. One dealer only had 2 autos at $30K. They were all great cars. I also noticed a couple with the charcoal IUP. The PONY package cars were awesome and a couple there as well. More GT Verts than Coupes at the highest alloc one.

My local dealer west of Atlanta generally only has 4 or 5 GT's. Every once in a while he'll get up to 7 or 8. I've never seen a markup and they gave me x-plan in November of 04.

Also, stop equating crappy dealerships with Ford. Ford makes the cars, they don't own the dealers. If you get treated bad, go to a different dealer. Back in 92 my ex-wife and I were treated badly by a dealership in Orlando. We went to another dealership, were treated great, and paid a visit to the first dealership to show them what they missed out on. Also, don't act like import dealers are the holy grail of car dealerships. My worst experiences in this area have been import dealers. It's hit or miss with any kind of dealer.

As for being on the fence about the car all I can say is you don't know what you're missing. Keep in mind that forums are a natural place to turn when you have problems, not when you aren't. Visit an Acura, Honda, Toyota or Nissan forum. The Acural TL had a ton of problems when it came out as did the 350Z. I see no significant quality problems between most of the imports and the Mustang. All new cars within the Mustang's price range have a few quality problems. If you're expecting a perfect car that won't have to visit the dealership at all, good luck.
