But won't the oil filter trap any particles?

yes it will but getting out with a new filter and new oil can ensure that there are no potential problems

Mine went in at 725 miles with ford oil and filter. At 2,000-3,000 will switch to Mobil one and Ford filter and do 3,000 miles after that.
You guys are changing oil like crazy! Oil today is far better than in 1964! What interval does Ford recommend?

If you use a high quality like Mobil 1, you should get far more than 3 k miles. My Porsche Cayenne S came with Mobil 1, when using this oil, Porsche recommends 30000 km / 19000 miles oil change intervals!

426H,

Becareful. Most (if not all) of the recommendations from the European automobile manufacturers are being driven by environmental considerations (and regulations) and NOT engine longigevity (sp?). 19000 miles between oil changes is WAY too long for just about any standard oil UNLESS almost all your miles are highway miles with very little stop and go and engine start up and shutdown.

19K miles may be too long but 3K miles is ridiculous when using mobil 1. Think I will cange oil at 10K miles on the P-truck.

If anybody has changed their own oil......is it a 'clean drain'? Just curious if oil drains all over cross members or anything else, or if it's a straight shot to the drain pan (including filter).
Clean drain!

Well, 19K miles is the recommendation from porsche and on most other new cars sold overhere as well. I think I am nice to the engine when changing at 10K.

I have about 800 on her now, sometime between now and 1,200 it'll be done. Sticking with recommended oil and Ford filters.
