Ok, so I’m another one who has finally gotten to see an actual ’05 up close. Maybe these “I’ve seen one” posts are getting boring. I was going to see one at Burd Ford in Indianapolis since another member listed them as having one, but even their web site listed the V6 price at $1875 over MSRP. I called Sharp Ford in Indianapolis, and they had a V6 and a GT. So I went out to get a first look.

Well, the jury is in. I want one. As I have read, the pictures don’t do the car justice. I could not find an bad angle no matter how hard I looked. The GT with the IUP is definitely the way to go over the non-IUP (as was in the V6). The salesman asked if I wanted to drive it. I drove it. Last time I was that excited and nervous in a car, I was 16 and in the back seat. Drives nice, sounds nice. The salesman said his dealership was sticking with straight MSRP - so no sale for now. Nice purple GT Premium with auto, in case anyone in Indy is interested.

But here’s my question. Timing for buying. I know, who knows. But work with me here. I’m thinking: December, right before Christmas. No one is out buying cars. But not enough time has passed for the demand to die down.

Next choice, February - inventory tax time. Still winter, and a couple more months will have passed. But maybe this “tax time sales” is just marketing BS.

Then there’s April. Just before the summer demand, and six months will have passed.

Then, May or June. Eight months passed, but the summer buyers will be out.

Any longer than that, I might as well wait for the ’06 or get a “leftover” ‘05.

Any thoughts? Dealer insights?

If you are look for a bargain, you are just going to have to wait until there are more mustangs available then people who are willing to pay MSRP. Between supply and demand, the variable difficult to predict is the demand since we already know how many and how fast Ford will be producing them. Although the time of year (i.e. tax time) will have some effect, the popularity of the car will be the biggest determinant of the price IMO.
