I learned how to drive stick in my 95 Cobra, so it doesn't seem like a big deal to me, however, my first car was a 91 Mustang GT back in 98, which I bought myself after high school. You are a very lucky kid!!

 

Congrats on your new car! Take it easy on the clutch untill you get used to it and everything should be fine!

I taught myself how to drive a stick in a '85 Mazda RX7, so I know it can be done!

This is Crap I got ITed by the Drill Instructors at Marine Corps Bootcamp for my 18th B-day.

 

I'll be learning to drive stick when my 06 shows up. My last two stangs were both autos. My wifes car is a stick so I try and practice on hers. And to all the folks making the smart hiney comments about his age, give it up. If your parents had the means and offered you a most awesome car like that, would you decline.

You know in one hand I think... man I wish I had a car like that at 18!

Then on the other hand I think... but all of the really great memories I actually have from that time was working/fixing up my old car. I worked my butt off bussing tables just to make $120 a week and nearly all of that went into some kind of new mod. (Wheels, paintjob, stereo) If it had been simply handed to me I suppose, at the time, I would have loved it... but now I imagine it wouldn't have been nearly as fun

Heck most of my automotive knowledge came from those years of having to fix up my old beaters. I remember driving to college in my '71 VW Bug with the pedal to the metal and going a max speed of 70 mph DOWNHILL!

I'm not knocking you kid. I think it's great that you have a wonderful car like this. I'll tell you the truth I'm envious... I sure as heck can't afford a Saleen and I'm 34!

But if I was Dad you'd be driving my old car and I'd be driving the Saleen

Agreed, that was one benefit.

The other was I totalled by first car, and blew just about every seal in the engine on my second. I'd have had a break down if I'd done that to a saleen.

PS you're lucky Mom didn't keep it after that drive home.

Have fun, I know I would!! For my grad present I bought myself a 1990 Integra with money I had been saving up from working at Taco Bell for a couple years. Then, I quickly saw the light, sold it and bought a 97 GT (now sold to get '05)

 

Thanks for all the compliments everyone. Yeah it's a 3 valve, and you are right its actually Cookie Monster....though it does almost look like a blue Elmo. I was worried too about my mom wantin to keep the thing after drivin it. She didn't say it, but I could tell she enjoyed it. I have to say, I love this car. It is absolutely frickin awesome. The thing shifts quick and the sound of the exhaust is killler. It was very simple to learn on. Maybe someday I'll get to test it out on a track. I wouldn't dare try anything crazy with this thing on the road. I've also had so many people tell me how sweet the car is too. Mostly people I know but also a few that I don't. Don't know what else to say other than I love this thing....quite a drastic change from a '97 F150 to a Saleen that's for sure.

 

That's a frickin' shame

If you take that car to college you can count on it being banged up.

It's still a nice car though.....

 

You say you're from Missouri? Let me guess, tried to order from Beuckman Ford, so you live in West St. Louis County. Now that explains the graduation gift of this amount! HAHA!

 

Lol...gotta go to Bo...that was the place....but I ain't from St. Louis. I'm from about 60 miles west of St. Louis in a pretty small town. And don't worry...I've still got my truck to take to college.
