Finally fixed my ebrake
Finally fixed my ebrake
I've been plagued with frozen ebrake cables for the last 2 years. Replacement cables ran me $70 at the stealership. The 2 ebrake cables connect to the ebake handle cable with a bent sheetmetal coupler.
What I learned the hard way is that you don't need to pry open the coupler to cables out. There's a notch on the back side that just allows them slide in and lock if you turn it sideways. That was impossible to figure out since the cables were frozen and there was no slack. If anybody tries doing this just cut the cables and you can slide them out easy.

Ive had the same problem for 2 years nows to. In the winter, I have to leave it in gear, but by spring, its fine. My warranty is up, so it looks like Im fixing it myself. **** NewEngland weather.
I repaired mine yesterday. The easy way (per the service manual) is to get plenty of slack by loosening the parking brake cable nut. Next step was removing the wheels and pulling the cable off the caliper. I used lots of white grease and slid the cable back and forth a few times. The boot used to protect the cable was falling off. Ford does not supply the boot because there is no way to attach it after assembly.
