I figured on the current '04 prices and added 5% .I was still pleased after the X-Plan discount and rebate.I'l put $4,500 down and only have to finance about $12,000 for a new Stang that most dealers are selling '03s for on the lot!

NOT.
I kind of figured that. I was wondering if lostsoulmusic made a typo.

I might be wrong on this, but why would they offer a Rebate on a car they won't be able to keep on the lot in the first couple of months. I thought rebates were incentives to get the cars off the lot when sales are slow. Or for last years models when the new ones are comeing in.

Kev,

Any thoughts?

I just finished reading an article in Newsweek about how sales of SUV's are drying up because of gas prices, and how consumer interest in the hybrids is skyrocketing. Of course this is hyped up and probably does not reflect the majority of consumers. However, it is possible that conditions this fall are bad/good enough for Ford to offer rebates on those cars that may not move because they are perceived to have poor fuel economy ratings. Only time will tell.

PS: I certainly would not categorize the Mustang as a car that gets poor fuel economy - in fact I believe it to be very reasonable. I just mean in comparison to one of those new hybrids.

i definitely dont care about the gas prices...........i found a place thats always lower than the next................right now im soooooooo happy that my place is at $1.88. it keeps dropping. im hoping for $1.30. but yea the rebates wont happen because the dealers r simply not gonna be able to keep these cars on lots and since they know people r gonna buy them no questions asked they wont say anything that involves giving money back haha

I don't think that there were any plans to put on the production car.

Unhappy

If there isnt that $2500 rebate to knock down my purchase price, I may have a hard time getting financed in my $300 a month range. I've got to get the car down to about $16000 or below if at all possible.
