Final stage torque converter
Final stage torque converter
Finally im at the final stage of ordering a tc
. Found a decent price on pi (lockup single disk) at http://www.jdsperformance.com/index.asp?initemuid=450&fcmd=item&inmake=136
But there are still things i cant figure out like what to go for AODE or E4OD? what the hell are they? And also if you scroll down the link they ask to select engine/shift rpm which i dont know. Last but not least they ask about tansbreak. yes or no. What do they mean by that?
Thanks infront

You need a TC for the 5R55S tranny that’s in our cars. I would also recommend spending the extra money and getting the multi plate version as it will hold up much better. The single plate has had several failures trying to lock up at wot. PI even states in their information to get the multi plate for the lock up capability at wot. As to stall speed it depends on your future goals. If you are going to stay N/A then get something in the 3500-3700 rpm range. If you plan on going FI or N20 then I would get something around 3000-3200 range.

I think you need to do some research on Fords, Ford trannies and automatic trannies in general before spending any money.
Unless you are building a dragster, you wont need a trans brake. That holds the trans in a pre-loaded and locked state (reverse and drive activated) until you release it for hard launches.
AOD and E4OD are older Ford transmissions. You can put one in your car if you really want but it really is not necessary if all you want is an upgraded torque converter. (They are 4-speed auto transmissions from the SN-95 and FOX years)
The S197 has a 5R55S transmission. It is made by Puegot in France. It is 5 speeds not 4. You at least need to know that before buying the wrong torque converter.....
