Fake gas cap

I have noticed that everytime I wash my GT (or it rains) some water must leak in behind the fake gas cap on the trunk. Every time I push on it, some water bubbles out the top. Anyone else have this issue? Im afraid it will rust behind it... anyone know if the bumper to bumper will cover this?

As long as there isn't any paint damage behind there. Probably not any, but you never know.

It's essentially galvanized. Look under the car, there is no paint, only primer. Even a gouge will only rust a tiny little bit

If it bothers you they will replace it. I had the aluminum "mustang" door trim replaced under warrenty because it was loose. Visually you could not see it unless you pushed it or pryed under it. Even gave me a free rental while I waited.

I'm getting water either behind the fake gas cap or in the third brake light every time I wash it. Haven't been able to pin it down because I can't see exactly where it's comming from, but it's quite a bit of water. Only pours out when the trunk lid is fully up. When I figgure out where it's comming from I'm taking it in.

It's painted behind the fake gas cap should not have any rust issues. Also the water may be comming from the sponge like adheasive holding it on, if it's only a tiny bit around the edges and only squeezes out when you push it.

I had my medallion leaking water into the trunk also and it blew out my trunk bulb.
I replaced mine and all has been well for over 1.5 years

I noticed that too when I washed my car, open the trunk and water goes everywhere.

It takes quite a bit to blow all the water out of the nooks. The grille literally holds about a quart of water and its in all the window frames, third brake light, mirrors, door handles, and trunk inner frame. I never have any drip INTO the trunk when the lid is opened though.
