Thanks, I finally found it by doing a search for Redline. I also found pics of these Recaros on Seatsource.com's website. They sell what appears to be the same model of the Recaros in your pic. I just need to find a Redline or cobalt SS and check out the seats. If they work I may buy one to try in a rental Mustang before buying the car.

They did this so that if you where rear ended hard, your whole body, including your head, would be accellerated forward by the seat. With the old style seats, your body would get accellerated first, THEN your heat would hit the head rest and get accellerated. This led to the bad casses of whiplash.

Of course, the new headrest design was mandated by the Feds after some date (I think it is 2008 model year, but I could VERY easily be mistaken!).

Personally, I like it. Driving down the road, I can lean my head back ever so slightly and have it back against the rest. It feels nice. When I first got the car, having the head rest so close to my head bothered me. But now I don't even think about it. Unless I want to rest my head back against it and now have to stare at the headliner...
I still wish I could adjust it a little farther back.
If you need to sleep in the car (long trips or passengers) you can pop the headrest and turn it around. It works great with a pillow.

the seat only bottoms me out on the springs when the car also bottoms out on its own springs. The headrest is a bent a little too far forward for me and is a nuisance.

I've been in 15 thousand+cars, they're pretty darn good. Very comfortable, but somewhat lacking in side bolstering-but decent for a one-size-fits-all sport seat. Best seats in any Ford to date were the leather heated recaros in the 03/04 SVTF Euro package though. Another car on my never-should-have-sold list, I still miss those seats...You do have to be in the right size range though for Recaro sport seats and the like, that's for sure. I also like the headrests, you get used to them and you can actually use them. All newer vehicles have a similar setup now though.

Those seats were available from 1987 to 1989 only, then Ford cheaped out and in 1990 removed most of the features.
JMO but, having an '89 GT, a '98 GT, and an '07 GT, I think I'm kinda qualified to say this. The seats in the '07 are much more comfortable than those in either the '89 or the '98. Yes, the '89 seats have more adjustments, but I don't think that makes it more comfortable, just harder to find a comfortable setting. Again, JMO.

I think my seats are VERY comfortable. I've spent upwards of 10 hours driving in my car (and will do it again soon), all with no problems...except for being a little sore cuz of sitting for 10 hours

Pointless for me to reply this late in the thread but man these are really comfy seats. I don't know how anyone can complain about them. I wish I could get a set for the house! The head rest gets alot of flack too, I find it also comfortable. Finally a head rest I can lean my head back on without staring at the ceiling.

I've done several 8-9 hour trips to my home town in my car and actually have to push the seat up and mess with the lumbar thing in an attempt to make it uncomfortable so I don't get so drowsy.

My only seat related complaint is that my right knee rests against the plastic console, been meaning to get one of those pads for that, otherwise they are perfect.

Hey man, I didn't realize you lived that close to me, I wouldn't mind checking out your collection of Mustangs sometime, very good collection you got there.

Anways, I have leather seats in my 06 v6 and I can say they are really comfortable. If you knew anything about me, you would know that I'm not really fond of leather seating in cars, but these seats feel good and holds all of me. I'm 5'10" and 280 pounds so I'm a pretty big, stocking guy and all of me sits on the seat very comfortably. I do wish that the leather seats were perforated (I have Verona Grain leather) for better breathing. Car has sat in the hot South Carolina sun many days and I haven't even once felt the seats get close to remotely hot, unlike the 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT that I car sat for a friend last week nearly burned the flesh off my bum with it's leather seating...very crucial lesson learned that day, but I digress. The Mustang seats are 100,000 times better than the seats in my Cavalier when I had it. The lumbar support is great and I felt fantastic after taking a (to me) long 50 mile trip a few weeks ago to visit a friend. I believe that if I want to I could take a 10 hour driving trip and not even get tired or feel it...that's how great I think the seats are, in my opinion. The only downside (if you can consider it that) is that after I clean the seats with protectorant, I tend to slip around a little bit in them for the first couple of days but after that, everything's peachy.

You should come to the Fatboy's Cruise-Ins, second Saturday of each month (April - November). Next one is July 14. Usually start around 4pm.

That's really odd, I found these seats to be the best I've had in any of my cars. I've gotten compliments on them from a number of people of varying weights and sizes. I'm 225 and 6' tall and I don't experience any of the compression issues you're talking about.

I find the seats to be quite good. I have the red leather and couldn't be happier. Good headrest support too. They definately beat the leather seats in my '01 GT. They killed by lower back on long trips and if I ever got hit from behind (knock on wood), the lack of head restrainght definately would have given me whip lash.

You're right... You can adjust it so that you can actually rest your head on it while driving. To me, that makes driving the car on long trips much more comfortable....

Ford apapears to have taken the cheapest route with these seats. I realize you can install aftermarket seats, but in 2008s it will be more difficult with the side airbags becoming standard equipment.

I haven't read many complaints, but am wondering if others feel the same way?
I am one of the ones that happen to agree with you. Previous to my o7, which I've had for about 6 weeks now, I have a 92 LX. Believe it ot not those seats are better supporting than the current seats. I have been so used to those seats that
its been difficult getting used to the current ones. I take it from the great amount of folks agree that they are fine, but I would say that would be my only complaint with the car to date.

Likewise.. I drove from Worcester, MA. to Columbus, GA. for a weekend and back, seating 22 hrs. each way. I stopped only for gas and a couple of naps, in the car. These seats are great!!! At 5'11, 225, I was able to stretch out and my younger brother who is 6'5 and 310 lbs trips out on much more comfortable these seats are compared to my old SN95.
I couldn't agree more.

I jump in and out of so many different cars selling used cars(and new Fords) for years that I can tell how simple and comfortable the the seats are. You do get used to a seat, a lot of people with 2nd gen Explorers LOVE their seats but I always hated them with the pillow cushioning and strange relationship to the controls, but I can see that once you are used to it, everything ELSE would feel odd. I drove an 07 C6 around a few times that we just got in(800 miles)over the past few days and the seats, although very competent and fully adjustable, do not feel as comfortable-as if they tried too hard designing it. I was also surprised the leather is that ultra thin type the sn-95's had(push lightly with a fingertip and it wrinkles like its a latex glove), it was showing wear folds already.

I feel the leather seats to be very comfortable, the seats in my stang appear much better than the ones in my F-150.

thanks for this perspective. Being I've just broken in the car with 2 solid weekend of driving about 7 hrs each day, my body is probably not used to it yet. Could be havent found the correct position yet either.
