Extended Warranty
#1
I did not get one at the time of purchase because I will get the full three years. I will not have 36,000 miles on it because I avoid driving it around here once they start pouring salt on the roads. I figure I can always add it later if I feel there are to many problems popping up. Post your decision.

I got it, plus the tire/wheel warranty. My extended warranty is good for 5 years or 120,000 km's. It is zero deductible and I can bring it to any dealer in North America. My last car (2004 Focus ZX5) had the extednded warranty but NOT the tire hazard warranty. My 17 year old hit a pot hole and blew a tire. Luckily the rim wasn't damaged but it cost over $300.00 to replace a 17" perelli tire. If we would have had the tire warranty it would have been free and if the rim would have been damaged they would have replaced that as well. I figured the price of the warranty was only a little bit more than it cost for the tire alone so I wanted to be safe this time with 18" tires /polished aluminum bulitts on the mustang.

I bought one from the dealer because I keep my cars a long time (at least 6-7 years) and all it takes is one maor component to go bad. I admit, it's like an insurance policy, you just hope you don't have to use it.
My dealer also has a free tire replacement program if you have all your scheduled service done there. I can't wait to try it out. They say they will use original equipment tires. We'll see. At least it doesn't cost anything to get into the program.

I decided against it.
Me or the shop I run can do most repairs. If something breaks I would use that time to upgrade that part if its possible. If not I do get Ford parts at wholesale.
I like what graybeard said. "it's like an insurance policy, you just hope you don't have to use it."
I did tell my g/f to get it on her 05 focus tho. I dont want to be working on one of those! Had slightly older one in for a clutch, that job sucked big time.

No, when my regular warranty is up then I can re-evaluate my decision.

I extended it to 7 years, 100,000 miles + the dealer gave me 2 years free routine maintenance (oil changes, etc.). Seemed like a good idea to me.
This car will be my daily driver. My last car had 137,000 miles after 9 years.

We went with the extended waranty, 5 years 100k miles. We will go through the 100k miles in just over 3 years..
It is easier to stomach the cost of repairs spread across 3 years than to try to save the money for when we ned a repair.
We plan to drive this car into the ground as well.. Our '95 neon is just over 300k miles, and so is our '92 ford explorer (323k miles)..
We also got the free oil changes for 48000 miles.. It cheaper than me doing it myself at the moment, and when it is time, I will switch it to synthetic just like our our vehicles (and then do oil changes about every 8k miles or whatever the oil analysis says).

I was thinking about it at first, because of the whole first year of ebing a new model thing, i.e. - me being a test dummy. It's usually not worth the money to buy the unwanted extra 3 years of protection. The way I look at it is, am I really going to spend roughly 13,50 dollars in repairs in the 3 years that my warranty expires?? Most LIKELY no, but you never know. It's a risk I'm willing to take. I hope that helps you in any way.

I got a 7 year 100K extended bumper to bumper warranty through my bank from National Auto Care. It lowered my monthly payments, includes more free towing and rental than my insurance and ford's complimentary, and I will be keeping this car for a long time, so it just made sense to me.

I got extended for first time on new vehicle with this one...but didnt cost anything- they threw it in as a freebie for the trouble of having to reorder due to carhauler incident...think its 5/75...with all the gadgets underhood, I thinkit might be cheap insurance...however If I really thought I'd 'need' warranty, I woulda walked away as if it came from mexico...I think it is pretty well built, hope it lasts long time...

I got the 5 year 120k extended plan from Ford only because I have 5 year financing and dont want to end up wiith a car I still owe money on, the warrenty has expired and have problems with it. That's the worse place you be be and I wanted to make sure I didnt go there.
So far this car from dream to drive has been the most pleasure I have had in a vehicle. The purchase was great, no money down thanks to Xplan , with extended warrenty I still got a better price than MSRP and could stil turn around and sell it now and at least break even if not a profit.
I have had no problems except a window switch which was taken care of by dealer. I have not had any of the problems I have read about here on the site, I beleive this car will be in my garage until I cant drive anymore and then I'll still just sit in it and start her up and listen to the sweet music of 300 galloping hooves!!

Why she may hit 10,000 miles in 7 years. Seems like a waste! Although I never do buy those warrantys. Big Money ahead of the game, I could careless what breaks. Replace whatever with a better part or all new product.
