Is the engine in my 2007 V6 actually made in Germany or in the US?
The Cologne V6 is designed based on the old Taunus V6 but is the engine in 2005+ actually produced in Germany or is it US built? Don't fault me for not knowing. I couldn't get a clear answer from Wikipedia...lol...thanks!

The 2.8 (and later 2.9) Cologne V6 was the biggest desplacement engine in the Ford of Britain lineup from the early 80's to the mid 90's.
It was seen in the Granada and Scorpio, but was best known for our own little muscle car, the Capri. It might have only produced 150 bhp (and a similar amount of torque) but it was, in it's day, one of the most powerful cars in it's class. However, as the Capri was pretty small and relatively light, it was a nippy little thing and very tail happy. It also made a fabulous noise!
I've had several and could never get them out of my system. About 18mths before buying my '05 Mustang, I had one last fling with this one

The first car I ever owned (back in '82) was a '75 Mach 1 with the German-built 2.8L V6. 21 second 1/4 miles bone stock. Heavily modded, mine ran mid 16's in the 1/4 mile. Sporty, but hardly muscular.

Pretty sure it's the same engine as used in the II. We didn't get a 2.6 litre version though. The Capri only ever had the 2.8 Cologne. This unit replaced the 3.0 "Essex" engine....built in, er, Essex, England The Essex was never fuel injected and I think it's highest HP rating was 130.
My first Capri had a 1.6 4-cylinder (Pinto) with all of about 82 bhp

A friend of mine in high school had a mid-70's Capri with the 2.6L V6. Our engines looked identical, but his engine smog label said 2.6L while mine said 2.8L. We both modded the heck out of our little Cologne V6's. He went on to open his own very successful hot rodding shop here in the Seattle area (Blood Enterprises) and he turns out some wicked cars (mostly Fords).

My '78 Cobra II had the 2.8 4spd combo in it. The prior owner had gutted the cat and opened the neck on the tank so it would run on regular at the time. Because of that gutted cat, it had an awesome sound. It didn't sound like a buggy V6 but not the rumble of a v8 either. It sounded cool. Slow as pus though.

The 4.0L Cologne V6 is a POS that should have been replaced by the 3.5/3.7 Duratec Cyclone V6 years ago.
The manual gearboxes used in the S197: TR-3650 and TR-6060 are made in Mexico. Most of the electronics in the car are made in China, the wiring harnesses are mainly from Mexico as well. The thermostat housings used on many 4.6 2V/3V are also made in China.
The Mustang is also made in a foreign trade zone alongside the Mazda6.

The old Vulcan 3.0 V6 was not based on the Cologne V6. The Taurus 3.0L Vulcan was a clean sheet design.

Mine was stock when I bought it, but I added: 465 cfm Holley 4 barrel carb, Offenhauser high rise aluminum intake manifold, Isky valvetrain, Crane cam, Clifford exhaust headers, cherry bomb mufflers (w/o cats), true dual exhaust, etc. Ended up run mid 16's in the 1/4 mile, which was not a musclecar, but definitely one of the quickest V6's around these parts 30 years ago. I caught more than a few smog-era V8 "musclecars" by surprise back then.
