engine failsafe mode
engine failsafe mode
I just saw this "engine failsafe mode" error on my 05 Mustang GT . . . it felt like the clutch went out . . . .I pulled over, restarted the car and no problems . . . . any ideas?? 6 months ago I cleaned my throttle body to successfully eliminate a rough idle problem . . . should I be worried?
I don't think your TB cleaning 6 months ago is to blame. It could be the TPS or maybe even the MAF. I tripped the wrench mode when I first got a CAI (came with a defective Mass Air Flow sensor)
The fail safe mode can happen for all kinds of reasons , basically if something is going on that the computer doesn't understand it goes into it , better safe than sorry I guess.
You can drive in the fail safe mode , but only if you don't give it much throttle , until you can stop and turn the engine off. Then fail safe will be off when you restart it. I've had it happen numerous times for different reasons over the years. When I first got the car and had the CMDP's installed , Steeda didn't quite have the tune worked out and on a cold morning it would make more HP than the computer allowed and it would go into fail safe mode. Then when I got my S/C installed it would randomly go into to it , Steeda spent months trying to figure out why , at first thinking it was due to spark blow out. It turned out to be due to an alarm system I had installed right after the S/C , I think they tapped into the 5V reference system and the computer didn't like it. The last time I got it was when I changed the plugs and forgot to plug the harness back into the throttle body , the car wouldn't start and it showed fail safe on the dash. Good luck , I hope you get it figured out.

Frustrating!!! The car gets very rich(10.2a/f) at idle,I can barely get it to start, when I remove a plug it drips in gas and so far I checked everything, wire, harness, throttle body, maf sensor, gas pump, conectors, injectors, plugs, coils, etc
Could this be because of a faulty pcm?

Victor you may want to try getting a tune from another company and testing it with your setup to see how it works. I've heard of issues with the Brenspeed tunes before. Or have you contacted them about it? Perhaps they can give you another tune...
