Rust bugs me personally.
The crank ballancer, etc got carefully painted with a brush and some black zero rust at the first oil change.
Entire rear axel got done when I had the rear suspension out and rear brakes off. Again, with a brush, but with flat black rusoleum out of a can. Came out great.
I did not touch the driveshaft or anything else yet.

Hutch,
Looks like I have the twin of yours down to the rust under the hood. Don't fret it.....I've had mine for over a year and it still has yet to see rain, yet I have the same problem. I noticed both of those got rusty over last winter, even while covered in the garage. The humidity will still get to it.

Clean Detail Freak!
Me too! Come on FoMoCo. You make this wonderful Stang toy and then bean count the little paint details. I've been black painting rusty stuff down there too. This winter, CalStang will get dark silver ceramic coat on the factory headers, too keep that brand new look. I know. I'm a sicky Huh?

Look under the hood of a new Toyota, Honda, Nissan etc. and see how much rust you see. NONE! ........ This is a new "American" car and there shouldn't be any ....... short cuts to save a buck annoy me.

Th rust looks nasty, but as I said before these components are "designed to rust", meaning after the metal is oxygenated (rust) it'll work as a barrier to protect the metal. Believe it or not! I'm painting mine later too.

Well, I have 1700 miles now and there is no rust on the crank pulley. At what mileage did yours rust?
My last car was a Camaro and the engine bay was remarkably clean after 100k miles. IIRC the block didn't have any rust. There was some grease though. I have some pics, though not closeup on the pulley, but it shows how nice it looked after that time: http://www.pbase.com/bruceleibowitz/camaro
On my website I did a little oil change tutorial just for the heck of it, and I have some pics underneath. These pics were taken way back when the car had around 40k miles: http://www.bruceleibowitz.net/cars_c...aintenance.htm
I see a little rust on the crank pulley there, but that doesn't bother me too much.
I hope the Mustang keeps looking this good!
