I cant believe mufflers in the back bother so many people. Only 95-97% of all new cars have them there.
I gotta agree with you. I don't understand why it's such a big deal. There's this wonderful new Mustang with a modern chassis and more potent base V8 and people are harping on the visible mufflers in the rear and the unpainted mirrors. [/b][/quote]
It is kinda like the the C6(Corvette) boards where they complained about the front license plate holder...

Compared to vehicles such as the Trailblaser, whose muffer is EXTREMELY obvious, the mustang's mufflers don't stand out too much. Not a big problem IMO. But I'm sure if you buy and aftermarket exhaust, it will have mufflers in the same spot but they will likely be small enough that you will barely see them at all.

I think there are a couple of reasons that people complain on here about mufflers and mirrors. One reason is because the cars aren't available yet, so lots of people look at the pictures endlessly and end up picking apart the few little details they don't like.

The other reason is because Brad's forum has become one of the best places for info on the '05's. And, because of this, there are alot of people on here interested in the new Mustang who aren't necessarily "car guys". They are interested in things that performance guys (and gals) could care less about. I don't mean to lump anyone into this category. So, if the shoe doesn't fit, keep your foot out of it. This is just an observation on my part. There is a different group in this forum than on other Mustang forums, like Stangnet.com or Corral.net. This site is probably more representative of the public at large, though.

You're problably correct for the most part. However, I hang around on Stangnet quite a bit and I've heard the same complaints there, albeit to a lesser degree.

Just cut 1 off, people would be too busy with their ears bleeding to notice the other one! B)

I think the mufflers give the back end a look of being a Car rather than an ornament. I like them and if I ever manage to get an o5 over here (please God!), I will leave them on. People behind you will not be able to see them for long anyway...........ZOOOOOOOOMMMMMMM

Cars Have Mufflers. Why the big deal?

Anyways, for those tripping out, I think Borla 12" XR-1 Sportsman mufflers may fit in the small available space up front.

It doesn't bother me either. I think it looks nice just the way it is. Infact they look kind of cool like that.

Actually, this thread was meant to solicit tips on how to best hide them for THOSE OF US that ALREADY dont like them - not to discuss how good or bad they look. I started this thread with the assumption from reading past posts and seeing that plenty of others dont like the visability of the muffs; I started it to get ideas on how to deal with the muffs, NOT to say I didnt like them and debate whether or not I or anyone else should. :bang:

I don't remember ever seeing mufflers hanging out the back of the old cars... The only thing I can seem to remember seeing is pipes... The back of the car now looks like your aveage POS rice ride. Gotta hope that the aftermarket gives us a new rear bumper cover that hides them better.

LOL

OK. Sorry to hi-jack your thread then. Someone else asked why it bothered anyone. I was just answering that, and it seemed like a good place to discuss the likes and dislikes. I didn't mean any harm. Now back to your regularly scheduled program.

That's because old cars had the gas tank behind rear axle, leaving the area in front of the axle open for mufflers. In newer cars, the gas tank has been moved in front of the axle due to safety reasons which necessitates the mufflers being moved to the back.

finally.... someone to sees the logic

I have asked many times... what would you rather have peeking out from the bumper cover, a set of mufflers or a gastank?

Looks like the '05 will be the safest Mustang ever, and that is always good to know

I DID!!! Cant spend my days looking for the few posts in multiple threads where suggestions are made. :notnice: One place is a better idea.

Mustang in the 21st Century???

Just becuase the muffs were moved to the very back does that mean they cant be hidden? Uh, did the concept version not hide them??
So sure Mustang can join the 21st Century but it could have joined it with just a little more style. B)

Like the concept bumper with the exhaust pipes going thru the bumper (and not underneath) Now that would be cool :worship:

If the uber-expensive 2005 BMW M5 doesn't have hidden mufflers, what makes you think a $27K Mustang GT should have them?
