So now I've caught several references to the 05's all new D2C(?) platform. For months now I'd been thinking the Stang was getting a slightly less expensive/sophisticated (read: no IRS straight out of the box, at least on non-SE/Cobra models) version of the T-bird/S-type/LS platform (DEW). Is this no longer the case? Or is D2C simply new nomenclature for DEW-lite?

Doh! :bang:

Dew-lite is where it started but evolved into SN-197. Dew-lite will most likely replace the panther platform for the next vic.

To be more correct.

79-04 Mustangs use the Fox Chassis, and had several 'codes' for the general cars. Last generation 94-04 were SN95 cars

05-X Mustangs use the D2C chassis, and the code for the car is the S197.

Dew-lite was the Lincoln LS chassis (DEW) that was modified for the stang.
Dew-lite was scrapped/altered/changed into the D2C chassis (all new) which may share components with it.

And to elaborate even more, even though it's not really specific to the 2005...

79-93 used the Fox-3 chassis, 94-04 used the Fox-4 chassis, which is more commonly refered to as SN95.

Sn95 was the cars code..
Fox4 could have been used on any car, however they weren't.
Kinda like the Fox3 chassis was used for the Mustang/Thunderbird.
but each car probably had its own 'code'

From articles I've read, FOX-4 was the designation given the platform used from '94 to '04 as it evolved from the one underpinning the '79-'93 cars. SN-95 was the program code for the development of the '94.

Kind of geeky, but one thing that bugs me is when SN-95 is used to describe the '94-'98 models only and New Edge for the '99-'04. I understand them to be ALL SN-95 Mustangs.

In Nashville at the MCA 40th, Ford engineers shared that the platform was "inspired" by DEW but was developed as all new specifically for the S197 Mustang.
