You have got to be kidding, if anything the 2010, is even more retro than the 05-09's were. For starters, the 2010's have the classic quarter panel hips ala (67-70) that slope above the beltline. Not to mention, the interior is totally reminiscent of the 1967-68 models. In addition, the turn signal indicators are located inside the headlight buckets. Which just happens to be a design cue from the 1970 Mustangs. And last, but not least. The inner curved conclave decklid, in which is a design cue totally reminiscent of the 1969 models. And how about the upper crease, above the C-scoop section.

That being said, if that isn't retro enough for you. Then I honestly don't know, just what in the hell is

Im pretty content with my 2005 V6 and my 2008 GT, my son will get to drive the V6 when he is old enough, then I will take it back and "restore" it to like new, The GT will get a few mods here and there but will stay in the family, next car will be one of the new Challengers in a couple of years once they have devalued like the Mustangs have, I thing it will be a nice collection to own, at least for me.

The 2010 is still certainly very retro for sure but it seems they also added some advance design surfacing elements that are common with the current Ford Focus, the new 2010 Fusion and redesigned Taurus coming soon.. One thing I noticed is the new obsession Ford has with kinked and creased bumper ends and the heavier upper bodyside sculpturing.

Adapting common themes accross an entire line of cars has been happening at Ford for decades.

In the 60's Squared off Thunderbird rooflines were subsequently adapted to most Fords including the Mustang Hardtop.

In the early 1970's all the Fords had fusilage bodies with beltlines that kicked up then behind either the side quarter windows or rear door glass.

In the late 1970's, Ford adpated the boxy Fox designs starting with the Fairmont.

In 1983, The Tbird and Tempo introduced the Jellybean look which evolved into the Taurus which later influenced the 1994 Mustang.

By 2000, styling was all over the place with Oval themes on the 1995 Taurus, to Edgey themes on the 99 Mustang, triangular themes on the Mercury Capri. Circles were explored on the 2002 Thunderbird which also introduced the first sign of J. Mays influence of retrofuturism. This exploitation of retrofuturism further resulted in the 05 Mustang and the infamous Five Hundred and new Taurus that closely resembles a ten year old VW Passat or Audi. This also resulted in the Fusion grille with took inspiration from the 427 Concept that did a modern interpetation of the 1965 Ford Galaxie bent bar grille. Sadly this era resulted in many really great concept cars that were never produced. This era also resulted in the bastardization of the three bar grille design that stretched and skewed to fit everything from a Super Duty Truck all the way down to two bars to fit a Focus.

Now the new 2010 Mustang is actually picking up some of the European Kinetic design language which helps the Mustang feel a part of the current movement that merges US and European Ford designs into the same showroom as one "One Ford". It's really convienient that the Mustang grille has a trapazoidal shape just like the lower air intakes of European Fords and now the Aussie Falcon.

So when you see the door sculpting of the 2010 Mustang, it relates to the same type of sculpting on the new Focus all the while also being reflective of the sculpting of classic Mustang models.

So, does anyone think that mods for our cars will come down in price now that all the hype will be on the new car?

The 2010 is kinda "girly" at some angles. You know "retro-metro-sexual" feminine cues....It looks like the S197 of old during the transition stage of a sex change from male to female. Anyone ever see the old Ed Wood movie "Glenn or Glenda"??? Some people probably thought he looked good in a wig a makeup too. Well that might be too harsh but hopefully they may butch it back up in a few years.

If your referring to the 2010's hips, as being "girly," then I must strongly disagree. As the hips provide a much more muscular, and aggressive stance over the 2005-09 models.

That being said, I just don't understand how sharper/edgier lines, or curves could be considered as being "girly"

As both the 67-68, and 69-70 Mustangs, also had sharper curves with hips as well !

we all have our veiws, that is what makes the world go round....

with that being said,i dunno how anyone could compare that mess of a 2010 with a 67-70 mustang. hell if it didn t have a horse i wouldn t call it a mustang. it is absolutly a fugly car. ford lost me on the trucks, suvs, tarus, ect.now they lost me on the mustang. i will keep my 07,but if i buy something new,i ll look to gm,or dodge.

It's not the hips I hate but the front upper and lower grille area is yuck to me and rear of the car is especially unattractive. The hips are fine. The hips would be awesome on an '05-'09. I must be squinting too much when I see the new pics because I am seeing a more rounded ricey/euro/girly style compared to the chisled agressive '05-'09 style. I know in reality the manufactures have to make new changes every few years to hopefully keep people interested but they could have done better this time. BUT on the other hand the '05-'09 style was such a monsterous grand slam out of the park hit it was going to be almost impossible for Ford to duplicate its impact.

On a side note...........I have read in other post from several Mustang forums regarding the "anemic" 4.6L power ratings in the '05-'10 models. Supposedly it can't compete in straight line acceleration. If I can run 13.3s\ 104 MPH with approx. 300 rwhp on stock tires and mine is anemic what is a 425 horse Challenger running 13.50-13.90s at only a mile or 2 MPH faster? What is an '05 GTO with 400+ horsepower that runs mid 13s at similar MPH? I have personally witnessed those times at a track. Track reality is far different than paper reality most of the time. I betch'a a new 422 horse SS Camaro will be in the mid 13s as well. Am I missing something? My old '87 GN was rated at 245 HP and ran 13.9s stock on a 60 degree day with a K@N cone filter and ran easy 12s with less than $500 bucks in mods and that was 1980s technology. My 305 horse LS1 Camaro with mods never matched those GN times with a 12 year techonolgy advantage and 70+ horsepower. Not to mention the GN was the size and weight of a 2 bedroom house for '80 standards. Hell the old Darth Vader hot rod wouldn't be afraid of a GT500 from what I have seen. I guess it was very anemic on paper as well. Don't be fooled by paper racing.

The thing is Ford needed to pull in more buyers than just retro Mustang lovers. They still made it retro but added a Euro flair and upscale interior to pull in buyers who rather by a foreign car. You know how many guys i have seen intrested in the 10 Mustang that would never even think of buying one? They were thinking of buying a foreign car before the Stang was revealed. The thing is will they turn off the die hard Mustang enthusiast to bring in a different breed of buyers? This were the 5.0 might help.
Myself i hate that rear end and black plastic cladding. The only positive thing is the hips and better quality interior parts.

If you had read my entire post, I was clearly referring to just the car's hips and interior alone, when compared with the 67-70 models !

not yet ready for the end of the 05-09...picking up a Vista Blue 09 GT stick (with the employee pricing thats going on) tomorrow to squirrel away for 10-20 years down the road. after seeing the 010, in my eyes the current model is my favorite, and I doubt(but do hope) sometime down the road, another 'love at first sight' looking mustang will come along with a good sounding V8- but in todays uncertain auto industry future, sincerely believe if it does its gonna cost way more than I would be willing to spend...I think today is 'the good old days' and the 05-09 is both prettier and less expensive...the 010 interior though is nice- wonder if it could be bolted into a 06?

I still love my 2006 .... as a matter of fact ... I HAVE to turn around and take a look at it every time I park it ... I just can't control myself and find it impossible to NOT turn around

05-09 S197s are about as collectible as SN-95s.

Don't hold off on mods unless you're planning on keeping the car for 30 years.

^ I'm with you. People seem to think that history will repeat itself when it comes to perservation and collection of today's vehicles. It's a whole new ballgame, folks. Vehicles are so much more complex now with materials that are not necessarily meant to stand the test of time...especially when compared to the road tanks of the '60s.

Enjoy life today, and have fun!
