The end of the 05-09 Mustang
I am not really concerned with the end of the 05-09 bodystyle. For me it's the same as people who still value and cherish their 1964 1/2-1966 models over successive model years.
I saw a perfect silver 1966 GT Convertible with red interior and red rocker stripes the other day and my God was it gorgeous! In some ways seeing something that looked like it stepped directly out of 1966 when it was brand new makes me appreciate it more than something that is current model year new.
I also saw a perfect 1998 GT Convertible in chrome yellow the other day and I thought that still looked very good and remember how I was entertained by certain specific surfaces and contours on the 1994 model that I used to have.
I don't see it any different than Harley owners who cherish their older bikes... Nor have I ever seen someone feel less special by owning an older model Porsche 911 that they love. Think of all the people who still feel good about their old Beetles and could care less if they have a newer one.
Even Mustang II and Cobra II owners have managed to make something special out of their old cars no one wants to love...

This is my last Stang or toy for that matter.I'm absolutely happy with my S-197. I've enjoyed the car hobby for the last 30 years, met all my goals and now its time keep this ride until my life ends.My retirement is coming up in a few years and I plan to travel and enjoy every mile in my Grabber GT.
I have to wait until I see the '10 in person before I say if I like it or not. To tell you the truth, back in '04, I wasn't all that fond of the "new" s197 either.
But that was based on assorted pictures...
It wasn't until I got my eye on one in PERSON that I realized just how much I LIKED this car. Taking a GT for a test drive over Thanksgiving pretty much sealed my fate. When the salesman had to go back to the dealership for a meeting, he give me a gas chit to fill it up and told me to go have fun.
I did... 70 miles worth or so.. The rear tires got about 500 miles on them of course.
And no, at this time I do NOT have any intentions of selling my car. I might end up buying a 2011 (if they give it the bigger engine), but I'll still have my '05.

It seems like the S197 finally got back to a real retro style, yet modern. And now the 2010 is going a little swoopier, a little more futuristic, and a little less retro. On the other hand, once I see one in person, I might LOVE it just like the S197. It's nice to own the latest of anything.
I'm still in complete and utter infatuation with my '07. Maybe that why I'm so rough on the 2010, I feel I already have the perfect car and don't need anything else. This is my first Mustang and it took me 20 years of driving what I had to, instead of what I wanted to, to get here. The juice was definitely worth the squeeze.
I agree with everything that was said above. I just love the idea that yes, there are alot of 05-09 stangs on the road BUT from this point forth there will only be less and less as time goes on. I personally love older cars that are well taken care of more then brand new cars that just roll off the dealer floor. The 05-09 stangs are going to age very well in my opinion, if they are taken care of.
Just can't warm up to the ugly rear on the '10. I'll keep mine for a couple years and hope they fix that blunder. The rest of the car is fine. The '05-'09 looked great at any angle, the '10 does not. Those cut off tucked in bumpers ends and the black trim make a very inelegant statement.
Other than a SC (that could come in time) I couldn't be happier with my Angelina! Putting the key in the ignition and waking her up is like doing it for the 1st time everytime! I still do the "look back" everytime too! I'm always the 1st one to volunteer to go to the store or pick up or drop off something/someone up!
Ford may have stopped making 05-09 but I have mine! For those who like the new touches in the redesign that's fine, I like the interior and the hips that were added but the front and rear have yet to do it for me.
edited: I've seen us 05-09's being referred to as boxy now? YEAH, I DON"T SEE IT!

Guess you could say its "The King is Dead - Long Live The King". My 05 will probably be my last Stang. Had a 65 and it took 40+ years to get my second. I'm reserving judgement on the 10 until I actually see one. IMO Ford did a nice job for a restyle on an existing model. Think the front-end looks good, the hips are a nice touch and like alot of folks - not real sure on the rearend.
I'm perfectly happy with my '05,She's still one of a kind, not to many that look exactly the way I've moddified it. I get thumbs up everywhere I take her,so I'll just stick with what I have. She's paid for ,so that's a plus in my book. I didn't build her to be the fastest s197,plenty of over 500 RWHP and incredible audio system,so the best of both worlds!
How many are happy that Ford has stopped production of the 05-09 stang? I know some folks are annoyed they they don't have the latest body style anymore but I have to say that I like the idea that my car (2007 black mustang gt) will not be built anymore. I'm one step closer to having a rare unmolested all stock 2007 Mustang GT.
Hear ya, only mine is Vista Blue.
I have looked at the pics of the 2010's..I am just not feeling the LOVE that I had when I saw my first 2005. It is a true "retro" style.. it so reminded me of my sisters '69, the 10's are simply gonna be a 'new style' in my opinion. I don't like the way the did the headlights or tails for that matter on the new model. Mustangy but not for me.
I bought my car for what it looked like. Not for crazy speed or anything, so no mods are in store for me. (only have 2 and they are the shorty antenna and a billet plug for the dash). I can "un-mod" at any time at all! Wish Ford would have just left well enough alone, but of course they always need to change things....
This is only the second car in my life i bought new 1st was an 87 stx ranger. I tried hard as i could to like the fox bodys and the pre 2005 but when the 2005 mustang came out I wanted one, but could not justify spending that much when i could build something just as cool out of something older but when need airbags taking daughter to school i stepped up to a 2008 and I love it. I get the mods thing and mine has a few but i dont get the whole new car at a car show thing well dont get the car show thing to start with but go to tons of them. I appreciate the older mustangs a lot more than the new ones how hard is it to make your 2010 look good compared to a 66 stang? There will always be people that need the news car out there I'm just glad the mustang is still going 40 some years later look at chevy and mopar they cant say the same thing. A mustang is mustang no matter what year it is.
The 2010+ exterior styling sux! Doesn't matter to me if their is a higher horse engine in the future the exterior will still suck. A new supercharger will take care of any power differences and I won't be having to drive a rather homely pretender. Doesn't matter to me if the new interior has shiny fake-chrome trim rings on the radio dials. Doesn't matter to me if now I can get a rear mounted backup camera. If you can't back it up yourself ride the bus! It doesn't matter to me if the new ones have a voice activated anything in the car. My microsoft computer crashes enuff at home. Do I really want that reliability in my stereo stack?? Doesn't matter to me if I don't have HIDs or SIDS or any other abbreviated option that I have absolutely no need for. I know what I love and I buy what I love and I love the '05-'09 models. My 2007 will be the last new Mustang I will be buying. I will also be keeping mine for a long long time now I know what direction Ford is going with the Mustang brand. The current S197 is exactly what I want in a Mustang. Fast, sexy, great handling, and easy as hell to mod and paid for. I always wanted a modern version of a '70 Mach1 and I have exactly that and I didn't have to make any compromises. Lighting struck in '05 and now not going to strike again for quite a while.

I am afraid from what I have seen this week the 2014 models will look like a bloated Euro bastardized SN95 model. 800 horsepower and a free hooker wouldn't make 'em sell. Me thinks the S197s will be like the '87-'93 5.0 Mustangs after the SN95s came out. More people wanted a good used '87-'93 because they were more desirable. Were they inferior in some respects?....yes but a hell of alot more desirable then and now. Look at the wealth of restoration parts for the '87-'93s. You can build a new one with all those parts. Hell visit the dragstrip today and what do you see the most of on street nights? It's not SN95s by a long shot. Go to local car shows and what do you see the most of? Classic '64 1/2-'70s, '87-'93s, and '05+ models. Hold on to them they may very well go up in value sooner than you think.
BYW....Nice ride Mas35NYR. Angelina is lookin' hot!

I love both styles! My '07 is a beautiful car, and so is the '10+. Liking one doesn't mean you have to dislike the other. There are some aspects of the 05-09 style I prefer over the new design, and vice versa.
