Drive-by-wire vs. Cable
#1
Just curious. I am not a fan of the computer. I would much rather just have the cable stretch right to the throttle body. What is the advantage of the computer controlled throttle anyway? It seems to me like another expensive maintenance item with very little upside. Please educate me if I am wrong, as I truly am not aware of its advantages.

Yeah, I'm thinking about investing in one of those tune programs that claim to eliminate the lag in the drive-by-wire throttle system - do they really do that? Anyone have first-hand experience with that problem being eliminated with a new software flash?

I don't like it either. I guess I'm just "old skool". The main thing I miss is being able to rev the engine while I have my head under the hood.
I may just be imagining it, but I do feel a little lag when I first floor it. That I hate. My passengers think I'm nuts but they should have known that before they get in the car.
Ohh well, I still love my car.

On the F150 forum, (also drive by wire) one advantage claimed was better soundproofing, since there are less holes in the firewall.
I will say, the F150 is the quietest vehicle I've ever driven. You'd never know it was a pickup!

less clutter and moving parts, and if done right (obviuosly not here) can be more responsive and precise. Easier to restrict drivers from doing fun things.
Basically things us Mustang guys don't really care for, or can do without a cable.
