That will wear out the headlights as well. Anytime you use the incandescent or halogen lamps, you wear out the filaments over time. That is why DRL's are a dumb idea unless the DRLs are LEDs (Audi) or CCFL (BMW), although CCFL and HID have far shorter lifespans than LEDs. I don't recommend using the perimeter lighting feature unless you desire the safety of having a lot of your lights stay on when you unlock the doors.

The foglamps and headlamps are rated for about 1000 hours nominal before the light output diminishes. Factor in vibration and voltage greater than 12.8 VDC and that number drops down dramatically (design voltage is usually 12.8 VDC for halogens, running it over 12.8 VDC reduces lifespan but boosts light output). HIDs are rated for 5,000 hours and White LEDs are rated for 20,000 hours.

The perimeter lighting feature also places unnecessary current draw from the battery when active.

Ford added this in the 07+ models. 05-06 dont do that, early 05s the windows would come up when you locked the doors and roll down when you unlocked them.

cool...I'll have to go try it on the 09, but dunno where I put the bag with the key fobs...need to look under the hood too as I read they changed the alternator copnfiguration- just wonder how different it looks than the 06- only opened the hood once to spray some wd40 on the block hoping to keep it from turning white while it sits...

So far it seems the GTs from '05-'06 don't have this feature but the '07-'08 model GTs do. My next question is; are the V6 cars the same year to year? With fogs or without, HIDs or not ?

Ive got an 06 pony package and as of now, only the interior light comes on when unlocking via the fob. Im gonna look in the manual and see if I can change that as I do wish something else would come on.

Same subject, different make. Has anyone else but me noticed when the new chev's unlock their doors ALL the lights come on. Even the BACK UP lights. I think that has got to be the stupidest idea EVER!!!! The only time the back up lights should come on are when the car is in reverse!!!

well, I just checked the manual on my 06 Pony and there is no mention of exterior lighting via the remote unlock. Just the interior lights as mentioned before. So it looks like 06 is out for having lights come on when unlocking remotely.

What a bummer!!!

Thank you for your research on the remote/light illumination on the '06. As far as your Chevy's lighting up like a millionare's house at christmas, Yeah that's GM at its finest! Anymore, I think GM is a shorter way to spell stupid!
