Do you stick your finger in the crack?
I agree with 364. I usually drive with my left hand around noon, but recently, at one of those driver's safety classes you can attend to get out of a ticket, not a real driver's school, they made a good point. Many folks were taught to drive at 10 and 2, but the new recommendations are 9 & 3. The airbag in the steering wheel needs to have room to open up. I can't imagine what would happen if it went off with your hand at noon. I'm still going to be defiant and drive with my left hand at noon though. However, the angle of the Mustang's steering wheel makes this harder. The car needs telescoping steering wheel.

Hmm.
I usually either drive with my left hand at noon, or with both hands at the 3 and 9 'o clock positions if I'm driving aggressively (which I NEVER do, cuz it's illegal, and I'm not into breaking the law).
However, out of a combination of boredom and my ADD during long rides, I find myself purposely sticking my finger in the slit.
I seem to be drawn to it for some reason.
It's peanut butter jelly time.

slammer223: We called those ***** you bolt on the steering wheel "necker's *****" -- don't know why.
Guys installed them so they could slide their sweetie over next to them on the old bench seat, steer with their left hand while wrapping their right arm around the girl's shoulder.
Banned in Ontario years ago but you can still buy them in Québec.

I have short arms, so driving at noon with a comfortable seating position is almost impossible for me, well not impossible but I don't like to do it unless I'm on some sort of twisties.
I put my left hand at 9 usually, crusing I'll put it between 8 and 7. 9 seems just fine for normal and a spirited driving.

I was always told to keep all fingers outside the wheel, or at least not to wrap my hand around the wheel. If you're airbag deploys while you have your finger in the crack on the spoke, you will probably be minus at least one finger.
My gues would be if you have your hand wrapped around the wheel when the bag deploys, you'll have a broken hand or a broken arm. No way you will be able to react fast enough to let go of the wheel as the airbag deploys and instinct will make you grab it harder.
