Do you let your teens drive your Tang?

My neighbor lets his 17 year old drive his Roush!
I saw him doing slides in the Costco Parking Lot the other night. This is like giving a 4 year old a loaded gun in my opinion.
My teens can't drive the GT. I just bought them a 2000 V6 Mustang with Auto.

I thought my 15-year-old stepdaughter to drive a stick shift in my old SN-95. Mind you it had a 347 topped with a Kenne Bell Flowzilla and dynoed at 496hp at the rear wheels. Not one of my brighter moments in time. But hey she did get the foot work down eventually but we used every square foot of the schools parking lot thank god their were no light poles. She learned how to control a spin at the cost of half a set on BFG KD’s. It was all fun and someday she will reflect on the fact that I drove the crap out of my step dad’s mustang and got away with it.

I can understand your worry about a 17 year old driving a GT. I'm 17 and know a few people my age that would probably kill themselves driving one. But I don't agree that it's like giving a 4 year old a loaded gun because there are are some teenagers that would treat it just fine. There's no such thing as a 4 year old that would be safe with a gun.
If you don't want to let your teenager drive your car thats fine with me because its your own choice. Your neighbor also made his own choice to let his son drive his.

It is completely dependant on you kid. I wouldn't want some poeple who are 25+ driving a GT let alone a roush. If your kid is responsible and knows his limits, there should be no issue. The problem is the number of 17 year olds who are ready for that responsibility are not many. Though, that by no means says that your son is not ready. It is just a judgement call based solely on how much you can trust your son and if you know he will be able to handle the car. Some of my friends (I'm 17 also) I would expect to find wrapped around a tree if they got behind one of these. You know your son, and you know if you can or cannot let him drive it.

Well it depends on how smart your kids are. I bought my mustang gt in March when I was 19. I turned 20 in August and I have yet to be pulled over or have an accident. You can drive these cars and have fun with them as long as you are smart about it. Let you're teen drive your GT if they know the difference between as good and stupid decision. These cars are a lot of fun and I have let a number of people drive my car including some people learning to drive a stick. No this is not risky as long as you take the responsibility as the owner to not put them in a unsafe environment with the car(time of day, traffic, or public road or parking lot). I love my and I want to share the experience with as many people as I can. You should do the same.

I sort of lucky I have years before my kids will be able to drive (they are 9 and 2). Although my son (the 2yr old) is already a car nut and wants to drive. He is always grabbing the car keys saying "I drive, I drive". Then he gets mad when we take them away from him.

Normally I don't let anyone drive my car, 17 or 77 doesn't matter. I did make an exception to that and let my landlords son take it for a spin down the road and back. He is a pretty good kid and I remember when my neighbor let me take his brand new '76 Trans Am for a spin around the block and when a few years ago my boss tossed me the keys to his new Vette and said "try this" and he had just picked it up and hadn't even been home yet. My point is if I feel the person is responsible enough, or I just get a wild hair, I'll risk letting a youngster take a short ride. After all, I was young once and some people showed confidence in me that I would do the right thing.

please i have seen grown men that can`t drive..i am 26 but age is just a number to me....you know people love to start a race.......on christmas eve i was going to work and some j/o wanted to race me and show off i just kept driving my own pace...sure enough the bone head spun out on the parkway traffic came to a hault god knows how many people almost hit him...so people of all ages drive stupid sometimes.....

YES, he drove my '03 GT to his prom and drove my '05 to his girlfriends prom. He's 19 now and owns a black '06 GT and he makes his own payments. It's all a matter of degree of maturity/responsibility.

I let my 19 year old drive my GT. He's very responsible, so I don't worry when he takes the stang out. My 16 year old also gets to drive it, when I'm in the car with him, that is. He also is very responsible, but needs more experience behind the wheel before he will be ready to go solo in the GT.

I am almost 25 and would never let a teen drive my car. Most teens can't handle the power and don't have enough experience. The 05 GT isn't the quickest car, but it can get you into a lot of trouble quick.

I don't have any kids but I wouldn't let a teenager drive my 05 GT. No way.
If I had a teenage kid (which I never will), he/she would have to buy the car including insurance. He/She would then be able to drive it like they stole it and I wouldn't care.

wow this thread is makin me feel old(38).I won't let my wife drive it unless I'm with her. This usually happens on new cars I own. After about the tenth or twelfth ding,I start not caring. I'm gonna keep this baby looking as new as long as possible. My kids are only 4 and 6 so I can't honestly say whether I would or not.

My neighbor told me my 15 year old son took my stang ('94 5.0 Vert) out of the garage last summer for a "test drive" one afternoon...problem was that I have identical twins and neither one would admit to it. At least Both arrived back okay.
