Hi, everyone. Does anyone know if the front seats in the '05 recline? I was bummed when I found out the ones in my '02 didn't...after I bought it. I miss taking naps in my car.

The back will recline a few degrees but not all the way down like the ones in the '90LX. Major disappointment. My driving position is a notch short of the furthest position.

Have you ever been in one of those older mustangs when the seatback broke??? It's pretty scary to be accelerating hard and when you're moving at 60 you're suddenly looking at the ceiling.

HA HA! Actually I have, thought it wasn't a Mustang. It was an old Cadillac, my mom's. Didn't need any hard acceleration to get the seat to flop down. Pulling away from a red light did that. The funniest part is she drove like that for about a year before getting rid of it.

Yeah, I was disappointed with the 02s angle of recline....

It stinks...its not a flat down sleeping recline.
You're basically just still sitting there staring out the windsheild

The improvement crashworthy design of the seat will affect the abilty of the recline mechanism to allow the seatback to recline fully. Think of those severe accident ptotos out there with the driver's weight causing the seat back to fail in an accident.

In the All Belts To Seat design, the shoulder harness is attached to the seatback, reguiring the seat manufacyturer to make the recline mechanism much sturdier. In ABTS the recline mechanism has to be much longer to allow the seat back to relcine fully. Since the mechanism is much sturdier to handle the crash load, there is no way the seat designers will make it longer too.

This imporvement is not found in the '05 Mustang as the seat belt shoulder teather is anchored to the B pillar. I think Ford just cheaped-out again.

The power seats that were in the Mustang GT at the innovation drive recline. They also could go up and down, depending on how tall you are. Overall i was very impressed, they were really comfortable!

Ya, it would be nice to just sit in it and take a nap, I too had a 90LX but had the unfortunate experience of stomping on the gas and having the seat lay right back. Pretty scary considering the seat belt locked in place and I couldn't sit up to see where the heck I was driving (or driving towards).

I started driving in the 60's and unfortunately this was an all too common experience and definitely no fun. Talk about reclining seats!

My worst experience was with a rented VW Thing in Puerto Vallarta about 18 years ago, but that's another story...

Sure have, and it is nothing new either; happened in my '69 Mustang and my '90 too.

Hopefully we will finally be past such silliness.

The original Mustangs didn't recline at all.
That really stinked when I was in high school and would take my girlfriend out in my '65.
Luckily, my dad didn't let me sell my first car, an '82 Grand Prix, (just in case the 20 year old Mustang broke down) so if we were "in the mood" that's what we'd take. Now those seats REALLY reclined!

Our 84 broke in 88  ! That thing didn't last very long . I'm glad we're not alone. After that the floor pan under the seat broke! Jeez, what a lemon. I guess it was common in those, huh?

This thread brought back memories....

Did a hole-shot in my 390 '66 Fairlane and broke the seat back on the bench seat! I nearly had a heart attack controlling the torquey monster while clutching the steering wheel!!

Another funny "broken" part episode happened while street racing a '67 GTO. Upon launch, i broke the rear leaf springs on one side of the car! Race over and off to the alignment shop for a new set of leafs!! There's something about torque !!

I'm all about the old pony interior!!! My '66 has it and it's really, really nice. My dad's '66 has the standard, and I feel it's quite an improvement over stock. It would be nice to have an upgrade option for seats other than just cow or no cow. Perhaps a performance seat with power side bolsters. I was in a '93 SHO with those kinda seats...that was real nice.

Damian.

They are beauuuuuuuutyful.
This one came off a 66, that car was mint and spectacular. The owner is very lucky to have such a beautiful car. It was original down to the trunk(PLAID!), wheel covers, and some little bowling bag thing with a horse I assume held the tire irons.
Go totally retro- thats my vote. AND Bring back all the cool colors they dont make anymore.
