You're in our prayers Chris.

Think 5 years out, will the extra money matter or will the getting the car you wanted? Only you can answer that one.

Mustang Dan, it is the principle of the situation. Not just that, but my spouse had a fit when she saw what one local KC dealer wanted above MSRP! Trading misery and time for $3,000 to $4,000 above sticker is OK, as long as the car gets here!

I agree principle is everything but Tony will have to deside what will matters for him, looking five years down. It's like talking to anyone that sold a great car like a Mach 1 or Classic GT and went Honda, all of them are doing this :bang: We just want Tony to be doing this

I don't know if we will end up getting an 05 or not but we will know we did everything we could, I can live with that.

Tony, think of your Marshal Arts training if it was easy everyone would be a black belt.

Thanks, guys for your moral support. It's nice to know you folks are wishing me well. Trust me when I say I don't take it for granted and I'm there for you too. Just ask. I'm a true friend in a time of need.

Rather than give you a blow-by-blow narrative of what transpired at the dealership today, allow me to offer this animated short subject...

This is me on my way to the dealer:
Upon seeing my salesman:
When I learned there was no word on my deal: :ranting:
Me when I considered my options: :stubborn:
When told car would be ordered and we would discuss the price upon delivery:

Now, I'm just going to wait, unsure whether or not the car being ordered will eventually become mine. What else can I do but say to the dealer?

Hope this little performance hasn't put y'all to

I'll keep you posted on relevant developments as they occur... seems I'm still in a holding pattern of sorts. Again, thanks for your support. You all :headbang:

Thanks, Dan. You're a good man. I can answer your question now: NO! The money is not important. The truth of the matter is that I'm willing to pay MSRP! However, the bargain hunter in me is hoping the dealer will relent and honor the deal they originally offered: $1,587 under MSRP. I'd even be willing to split that figure in half.

Unfortunately, I am still in a holding pattern, since the "powers that be" haven't reached a decision. I am appalled by their indecision. Have they ever considered the prospect of losing business referrals or repeat business? What positive word-of-mouth advertising can they hope to obtain by jerking my chain like this? It defies logic. Maybe they think I'll forget all of these silly games after they agree to honor their original offer. A promising development came at the end of our discussion: the salesman said he would order the car and place my name on the VOC. It's not much, but I'll take whatever I can get!

I hope my next post will bear better news. Again, I can't thank y'all enough for your encouragement.

So you ordered the car with no price, do you have hopes he will give you a good price when the wheels are on the ground at HIS dealership???

Basically, the dealer's weekend manager had a fit when he saw the deal I got. The salesman got berated, even though his immediate supervisor approved of the deal. The weekend manager is getting the general manager involved. I've been told the GM has heard about this deal, but that he hasn't yet given it his blessing. Nor has he killed it. Hence, the issue of price is still up in the air.

I'm afraid they will order the car, but if someone offers more money than me, the car will be theirs. That's why I'm frustrated. I don't feel as though I have a "car on order." A car has been ordered, but it's not necessarily mine. Confused? I sure am. I keep thinking they're trying to play good cop, bad cop. Either way, it seems like a poor way to do business. The only good thing about it is they are supposed to have allocation on GTs, so I guess they are worthy of some consideration.

Chris - I think you should consider going back and forcing the issue. Tell them you want a signed Vehicle Purchase Agreement. If they refuse, you know they have no intention of selling you the car at your agreed to price. If they do sign one, you have peace of mind. Just my .02

Chris,

It doesn't sound to me that they are that enthused about selling you a car. If you've given in to the fact that you are willing to pay MSRP at least find a dealer that will at least appreciate your business.

Chris:

These sales guys are just killing me...sorry you're having such a hard time. Keep up the fight.... ...one of these days we'll both have an 05 (or maybe an 06 ) and be cruising down the Blue Ridge parkway letting the Mustang Music play.... :drive: keep us posted.

Chris, dont take this the wrong way, if you dont get that purchase order, you will be going nuts in 2 months while you are worrying and waiting for your car to come, and when it does, they will have you over a barrel and you will pay whatever they want you to pay.
They are playing you big time, classic dealership antics, you can a find a dealership to take your order at an agreed price that is good for both partys, and you will have peace of mind.
Did you leave a deposit?

Hey David, don't sweat it. I appreciate any advice you offer, pro or con! As I said in the post's title, I've lost my objectivity. I need a reality check from y'all on TMS! And you're probably right. It would drive me insane. The good news is no money has exchanged hands. And in the time all this nonsense has transpired, I've added $700 to my "Mustang Fund!"

The clock is ticking and I expect this drama to play out over the next couple of days. If it works in my favor, I will join the ranks in the "waiting room." If not, then I'll do whatever it takes to get what I want. Thanks for your input. I appreciate it.

Chris...personally, it doesn't sound like you've got any sort of deal, now or in the future, with this dealership. This is an easy decision....for you and the dealer.

Dealer can make this decision in the blink of an eye. They are stringing you along.

You haven't put any money down (which may have been the reason the dealer won't committ to anything either).

Since they haven't been very helpful to you up until this point, there's no reason to think they'll be helpful to you now, or in the future....just keep stringing you along.

I'd move to another dealer. Get a committment in writing. Put some money down. Have the dealership sign the deal when you do. Have all the terms of the deal clearly spelled out (not just the options). IF the dealer says they should get the car in 6, 8, 10, 12.....52 weeks from now, have them spell that out in the deal. Make certain price is spelled out clearly. Ford price protects ordered cars, so don't let them tell you they can't give you a firm price.

You've got nothing to lose at this point by going to another dealer.

As KARPRO states, at least find a dealership who will appreciate your business.

Walk away! Don't play that game. That's the only way Dealers will start getting the hint that people don't appreciate getting treated like morons.

Well hopefully you guys get your Stangs soon. I, tomorrow, may be looking at a Scion tc due to financial considerations(And I kinda like that panoramic sunroof). I may however, stick around here to chime in every once in a while. Lord knows I wouldn't be hanging out on Scion forums. And who knows, if I come across a better source of income, I will eventually get my Mustang. For now, I'll enjoy my sunroof and low price. Don't worry, I won't be ricing it out.

Again, thanks guys. You have certainly given me much to ponder. I appreciate your objectivity more than you could know!

When we first agreed upon the price, the salesman asked for a $1,000 deposit, which I was happy to fork over. I finally thought, "this is it...I'm ordering my 'Stang!" Then he had a pow-wow with the weekend manager and the slop hit the fan. That's when the deal went south.

Honestly, the more I ruminate over everything that has occured, the more I am inclined to walk away from this dealer. Sweetheart of a deal or no, I deserve better than this. At least I think I do.
