Well its about time again to bring it in for service again on Thursday. Been reading all the posts and taking into consideration, I'm going to get them to fix all the problems that Ford has out on the Mustang, one being the popping noise coming from the upper struts in the front of the car, the popping is def getting worse so I'm gonna let them look at that. I have a quarter window leak which is something I spotted a while ago at the car wash, but was waiting to have service done to the car again in order to get the window done. And finally, ahhhhh, the ever popular gas tank! I was at the station yesterday and it was late at night and the guy inside was too lazy to come out and pump my car, so I start to pump my car and of course i had to invert the nozzel again, and a cop came pulling in and said that I couldn't do that. he said it was unlawful for me to dispense gasoline and that he can write me up a ticket. I told him what the problem with the new Mustang was with the gas tank and the nozzle had to be inverted. He said he didn't care, the gas attendant could of stood there and held it inverted for you, (but of course I'm not gonna let him do it cause I don't want him scratchin my car) and that if he caught me touchin the nozzle again or dispensing it in the car, he would write me a ticket. what an A.$.$.*Beep**beep*!! What township was I in, very simple, MOUNT HOLLY!!!! God I hate those cops! Especially at 11:30 at night when they have nothing else to do! But hopefully I'll get the popping noise fixed, the window leak fixed and the gas tank fixed. I'll let everyone know how everything goes.

NJ has a communist law that says you can't pump your own gas, full service only. Oregon has the same thing. I beleive it was part of a liberal social job program to provide jobs to low income workers. At least this is what I was told about Oregon. So no, there's no good reason.

It's kinda like my job where I can't pick up a screwdriver here before a union steward is yelling at my boss because that's the job of the certified screwdriver handler. What a joke unions are.

Yes I have had a bad day

I think he meant the cop was pissed because of the way he was pumping it, not that he himself was doing it.
Anyway, I never knew there was a law against the method of pumping gas. I never learned that in Driver's Education. If this fueling problem is so common, something really should be done about it. Recall, whatever.

What kind of a law is that, I wish attendants pumped our gas, I would love to kick back and relax and just tell them "fill it up" rather than getting out of my car in sub zero temps and freezing to death.

In NJ we are not "allowed" to pump our own gas. I can't say that I mind though...

here's the stupid thing!, we're not allowed to fuel our cars! But we can fuel our Motorcycles and Fuel Gasoline Cans if we want, but its unlawful to dispense it into an automobile. Doesn't make any sense to me....

That would seriously be enough for me to shoot across to PA or NY if I was even halfway close to the border.

What kind of stupid laws do you people have????????? Never heard of that before........and besides, I agree with most everyone, I wouldn't want somebody who doesn't give a crap about drips, scratches, etc having to fill up my car.

And Paul, as for the cop, I'm embarassed to say that I'd probably tell him, from one cop to another, to "get a life!!!!!!" And then there'd be a disturbance and I'd probably get arrested 'cause if he gets off watching you fill your car, arresting a brother P.O. would probably be the highlight of his dismal career!!!

Well, since I am a legal dork, I wanted to see the text of the statute. It is NJ Title 34:3A-7 ----

No person shall dispense fuel at a gasoline station, unless the person is an attendant who has received instructions regarding the dispensing of fuel, had practical experience dispensing fuel under the direct supervision of an experienced operator for a period of not less than one full working day, and, upon examination at the end of that period, demonstrated his understanding of those instructions. The instructions shall include a full explanation of the prohibitions of section 3 of this act and any emergency procedures established pursuant to section 8 of this act.

And in case anyone cares, here are the legislature's "reasons" for passing this law (Title 34:3A-4)......

"The Legislature finds and declares that:

a. Because of the fire hazards directly associated with dispensing fuel, it is in the public interest that gasoline station operators have the control needed over that activity to ensure compliance with appropriate safety procedures, including turning off vehicle engines and refraining from smoking while fuel is dispensed;

b. At self-service gasoline stations in other states, cashiers are often unable to maintain a clear view of the activities of customers dispensing gasoline, or to give their undivided attention to observing customers; therefore, when customers, rather than attendants, are permitted to dispense fuel, it is far more difficult to enforce compliance with safety procedures;

c. The State needs stronger measures to enforce both compliance by customers with the ban on self-service and compliance by attendants with safety procedures;

d. The higher general liability insurance premium rates charged to self-service stations reflect the fact that customers who leave their vehicles to dispense gasoline or other inflammable liquids face significant inconveniences and dangers, including the risks of crime and fall-related personal injury, which are a special burden to drivers with physical infirmities, such as the handicapped and some senior citizens;

e. Exposure to toxic gasoline fumes represents a health hazard when customers dispense their own gasoline, particularly in the case of pregnant women;

f. The significantly higher prices usually charged for full-service gasoline in states where self-service is permitted results in discrimination against low income individuals, who are under greater economic pressure to undergo the inconvenience and hazards of dispensing their own gasoline;

g. The increasing use of self-service has contributed to the diminished availability of repair facilities and maintenance services at gasoline stations;

h. Even in filling stations which offer both self-service and full-service gasoline, customers are less likely, because of the much higher price usually charged for full service, to have attendants make needed maintenance checks, thus causing significant neglect of maintenance and danger both to the customers and to other motorists, as well as the unneeded costly repairs which often result from deferred maintenance;

i. The prohibition of customer self-service does not constitute a restraint of trade in derogation of the general public interest because the Legislature finds no conclusive evidence that self-service gasoline provides a sustained reduction in gasoline prices charged to customers; and

j. A prohibition of self-service gasoline will therefore promote the common welfare by providing increased safety and convenience without causing economic harm to the public in general."

I'm sure our native jersey folk can corroborate that

WOW, what are they going to do when Hydrogen Vehicles come around? New Jersey will have to hire Rocket Scientists and engineers to operate all their "gas" stations!

OMG... I have never heard of such a thing. I can't even remember the last time I saw a station that offered a full service island. Plus that doesn't make sense that you can fill up a gas can or motorcycle but not a car. Whats up with that? Wouldn't you still be exposed to the fumes? Here in AZ we pump our own and like it!
