that is the outside corner...where it wraps around the window when its up...the other piece (not bent back) is the fiberous stuff
Ok so you have one fiberous piece, and one rubber piece?

yep, thats it, fiber wise. Mine is outside AND inside though. It's really like the actual flaps that touch the windows have no rubber at all... i think they are more like thin leather strips with felt on them... that would be a more accurate description in my mind.

my car was built 6/6/05. maybe it's just the cars around and after this date? when was yours built?

My last one with the hard window seal was built at the end of february.

OK this is F'ed Up! I have the felt on one side, and the harder rubber with no felt on the inside. I have scratches all up on the driver and passenger windows. I am about to go to the tinter this weekend to get the tint replaced, but get the felt installed. I'm going to have to pay almost $300 in labor to get the felt installed, and if Ford is now shipping 05's with this new seal...then they should replace my seal shouldn't they??

I'm pissed if this is true. Please someone who has a new Mustang, confirm this!! Post a picture or something please.
Have you spoken to FORD about it? Even though I didn't get my windows tinted from the dealer they are going to have the tint redone.

Mine was delivered in October. I am not sure what date it was built. I wasn't following the build dates. I had the first batches though, so I assume it has to be a mistake. I mean, not even last years has that type of window sealing. I guess it is a mess up. I am just wondering if it is going to be made public in any way...either through a tsb or a recall. I mean, that is a lot of vehicles that are going to have this mistake. I think they should do something

I spoke to my dealer about it, and they are going to check and see if the newer builds have that double felt liners. I assume they will replace the liners at no charge. I would hope they would also pay for the tinting too, but I could care less about that. My tinter has already told me he will replace it. I just need to know something by this weekend, because I am suppose to spend $300 in labor to have this tinter put the liner seals in himself.... I'm taking the car in tomorrow to get the CD player TSB corrected, so I will ask them again tomorrow.

it might be a couple days, like i said, i'm moving and the only digital camera i have access to right now is the one on my phone, and it takes really crappy pictures. Give me a day or two and i should have the house computer and real digital camera up and running.

I went by the dealership, but I didn't get a chance to talk to my service rep. I'll mention it again this afternoon. They had a few V6 verts and a V6 coupe there too. I'll have to ask them if they can check it out.

Both sides of mine look just like Emilee's. My inside bead is a pliable rubber and the outside is felt. In looking down inside the inner part of the door it looks like the roller bar things have felt on them inside the door. I am taking her to get tint in the morning. I will ask about felt.
Those of you guys who added felt did you just put on this :

$300 to put liners over the inner window seal??? That is NUTS!!! It will only take about 30 minutes TOPs to do that job. Yes, they have to pull the door panel loose so they can pop out the inner window seal. But I can do that job in less than 5 minutes per door. Actually, I HAVE done that job in less than 5 minutes per door!

So let's see: 5 minutes to pull seal out. 5 minutes to measure, cut and attach seal liner. 5 minutes to reinstall seal and door panel. 15 minutes per door. 30 minutes per job. $600 per job. RAPE!!!! I hope that he at least provides vasoline with that job...

I just had the tint redone on my March 17 build GT for scrached tint.

Cost of materials? Free (covered by the no scratch warrantee).

Cost of labor? Free (Covered because we talked about installing the mole skin the FIRST time we tinted it and then they didn't do it!)

A customer that will readily recommend them to friends? Priceless.

Well just to reduce the math some here, it was $150 a door, $300 total....still a lot if you ask me. That's why I have been trying desperately to get some credit to this double felt liner story. I don't want to spend $300 to get my tint fixed if I don't have, especially if it is due to some bad design at Ford that is now fixed!!

Oh man....I went out and looked at a V6 Vert today with the service rep. The car had a build date of June 11 2005. It had felt on one side, and rubber on the other. So we don't have any credit to the build date yet do we?

Is there an easy way to do this with out taking the whole door panel off, I was looking at it today and can not see doing a professional job on the car with the door panel fully installed..also why would you take the inner seal OFF the door panel to install the felt.
I have never fooled with door panels and they scare me..lol, could someone give a step by step how to on this felt install, the easiest way preferably!

Just checked mine, build date 6/23/05 and felt on the outside and fairly soft rubber on the inside.

Well my felt is the same as yours. How much was the cost to tint yours? My tint guy is replacing the tint for free, I just have to pay for the labor on adding the felt. He is going to take off the door panel, install the felt and install the tint while the door panel is off. He originally put the tint on with the door panel on, and the tint was cut right at the seals, so I hope this installation you won't be able to see any lines. The guy is good, but I don't know if $150 a door is a reasonable price. I think that is high too, but I don't know of much I can do at this point besides go to another tinter and potentially spend the same amount.

I don't think you can put the felt on without the door panel off. You don't replace the original rubber liner, you just stick the felt on top of it. I saw the tech manual on how to take the door panel off, but I didn't want to do it myself. It didn't look that bad though. There was just a trick with the speaker in the door.

So we definitely can't get a confirmation on the material and date.

Anyone else with a brand new stang chime in on this?? Do you have felt on both sides of the sealing that touches your window, or just on the outside?

Quick Reply: did ford re-think the window seal?
