My first 05 had that hard plastic seal that scratched my tint in like 2 days...

my new one has a completley different window seal. My tint place said they did not replace it. I asked the dealer about the seal when i picked the car up, and he said, "well the tint guy looked at the seal and said he was pretty positive it wouldn't scratch the tint so he left it on there" i made sure to check it out before i rolled down the windows, and he's right, it's like a really soft little furry bendable one. did ford get all the complaints and change the seal?

sorry if there is already a thread on this, i didn't see any though.

When I got my car tinted, I asked about the felt thing. The lady said only the first new Mustang they did complained about scratches. She said, none of the other Mustangs they did have complained...so she guessed Ford did do something.

So far, no scratches on mine.

Ya, I always wondered what the deal was because mine are pretty soft. My passenger side is scratched but it looks like salt or something got stuck in the felt causing the scratches. Ford is nice enough to fix it anyway. I guess mine has the newer felt strips versus the first 5,000 cars that were produced.

On mine the outside had felt but the inside did not. My car was built in May. I put some on the inside rubber just to be safe since the tint is on the inside as well.

Sooooo, has Ford changed the seal design?? I want to get my windows tinted, but I am scared about the scratching issue. My seals seem to be soft and flexible (no felt, though)

my old one was very obviously hard plastic, it was flexible, but still plastic-ish

this one is very thin, very flexible, very obviously soft, not plastic-ish.

Emilee, can you post pics of the "new" seal? I want to make sure my car has this b4 tinting. I was in the same boat as jim, and didn't want to get mine tinted w/ all the scratch problems.

OK this is F'ed Up! I have the felt on one side, and the harder rubber with no felt on the inside. I have scratches all up on the driver and passenger windows. I am about to go to the tinter this weekend to get the tint replaced, but get the felt installed. I'm going to have to pay almost $300 in labor to get the felt installed, and if Ford is now shipping 05's with this new seal...then they should replace my seal shouldn't they??

I'm pissed if this is true. Please someone who has a new Mustang, confirm this!! Post a picture or something please.

do you have felt on the inside seal just like on the outside one, or is it just regular rubber on the inside?

the inside seal is soft. My old car (the one that got totaled) did not have the same seal, the inside was a hard plastic, so i know exactly what all of you are talking about because i have had both of them. I will take a pic of the new one today if i can, i'm moving so the only computer i have hooked up right now is the one at work, so a camera phone picture might be my only option

ok i can NOT get a good camera phone pic out of it. it's just too blury that close up.

Anyway, it's actually furry.... like there are fibers and stuff like carpets or felt would have. and thats the inside seal. the outside one is also the same furry strip.

Hmmm...anyone interested to call their dealer to see if this is an "orderable" part?? Should this be a TSB or something?? I guess not, because then they have to pay to have the window retinted!!

Well I just called and he said, if I have a few days he could check on a newer mustang and see if this was true. Anyone else want to give it a try with their dealer?

I called the dealer parts department to fiind out if there is a supersceded part number. There wasn't. So I'm not sure whats going on.

Maybe someone who works at a Ford Dealership and frequents this board could order one and take a look?

MAN what a close up!! hahaha.

Well from your picture, it actually looks like you only have felt on one side. Is that true? The side where you finger is bending down, that looks like mine, which is the rubber, not felted

that is the outside corner...where it wraps around the window when its up...the other piece (not bent back) is the fiberous stuff
