I went to the local dealership down here to look at the new stangs, had 4 v6's and a GT. I pulled up in my 2000, nice and clean, wearing nice clothes, and went over to look at the GT, salesman comes out, talks about the new mustang, asks some questions about mine, I mention that it's my 3rd mustang and I really like the new ones, we were standing by the v6 at that point, after thoroughly examining both, so I ask him how about a test drive and he asks how old I am. I say 19 and he says no can do, no test drives under 25 unless you're ready to sign the contract :bang: :bang: . I kind of looked at him like you're kidding right? And he says company policy, sorry and turns toward the building. I just said I guess I'll be taking my business to duncan ford (10 min down the road) and he turns around and says yeah, I guess you will. What an hiney! I can sort of understand where they're coming from but come on...it's not like I wanted to test drive a vette, it's just a V6 mustang. And it's obvious I'm likely to purchase another....guess I'm going to have to get my DAD to go with me to test drive a darn car.... :notnice:

Take your dad to the same dealership and see how the salesman reacts! I would guess he denied you because of the insurance issue, but like you said you wanted to test drive only the V6

I have had similar experiences with test drives. Although my test drive experience for my 05 was really good. In the past though, going back a few years I have been denied test drives just because of my age =\

I was just playing around. My bad for not putting in I was joking.

Sorry to hear about the testdrive. But like a previous poster said I think it would be interesting if your dad went in and asked for a test drive.

in 17 and look it...They didn't even get a copy of my licence.. just gave me th key and 10 bucks to fill it up too.

I guess it just matters where you go.

Try calling before you go and ask for a test drive... thats what i did. they had the keys waiting for me

Sorry to hear - Karl and I have had very bad experiences with sales men - we're in our 20s, so they usually ignore us - especially some who think women are completely ignorant about cars (UGH that is the worst) -

Note: I know there are good salesmen out there, so take this the wrong way:

DON"T TREAT WOMEN LIKE IDIOTS or we'll kick you some place worse than the ding ding - YOUR SALES!!!!

Ok, with that aside (I feel better now) - I have been fortunate to find a wonderful dealer - he let me drive a GT vert for my 16th bday and my 17th bday (my birthday wishes) -

That was a bit rude of the salesman to say that - how about, hey, bring a parent with you and come back and see me! Here's my card and give me a call! thanks for stopping in!

Not much effort and better for business!

Yeah, I know I'd be treated much better if I went to my local dealership back home. Family's bought more than a dozen vehicles from them, my dad just bought his f250 there a year ago. (This is Purvis Ford in Fredericksburg, VA btw)

I just figured I'd check one out while I was down here at school.

If you just turned 16 or 17 and took a joyride in my future Mustang at a dealer I'd kill you. well, not literally, but don't take test drives just for the heck of it.

Maybe they thought you worked in the service department fueling up the vehicles

I'm from Aiken, SC - just recently moved to Atlanta - The dealer who let me drive is Satcher Ford in Aiken - and that is where I placed my order

But not all 16/17 yr olds want to just do it for joyriding - it is possible they just want to savor a chance to enjoy a fine automobile!

Yeah the guy could have been nicer but if every one test drove a new mustang there would be a ton of miles on them before they sold them, know one wants a new car thats been test drove a million times.

Every dealer I went to you had to sign the papers before driving it, my mom and I both ordered Mustang GT's together at the same time, and after we ordered I demanded a test drive, and the mustang i drove was in the show room and they had to move three cars to get it out but i couldn't care less~

Age is a rediculous reason to deny a test drive. The majority of my customers are under 25.

We only allow over 18 with parents, 21 by themselves or no insurance if there is an accident, including against lawsuits. The salesman is on their own if something happens.

i had no problems at the dealer and I am 25. My area is mostly college and Navy people so we are all pretty young here.
