Ok there is a Mach 1 that is left in my area still and with x-plan and current rebates, it is down to less than $25k. What do you guys think?

I'm going to sound dumb, but pick whichever one you want more.

I know that it is hard with out having an '05 to drive, see, touch, etc. while you have a Mach sitting right in front of you. Good decision either way you choose!

I say neither! Wait a few years and save up the cash for a 2006 Mach 1 SE.

Wait until the '05 hit the lots..
in about 7-8 weeks there should be one in your local showroom to testdrive,

If you still want a mach1, you should be able to find one,

in my mind, the '05 is so much more refined you will be hooked.... don't jump too soon or you might have buyers remorse.

I agree, since you are so close to seeing them on lots, I'd wait. I'm there will be some 04s left on lots as the 05s are arriving.

Tough choice! When I went to order my 05, I test drove an 04. Nice. I really enjoyed it. But then I thought there are so many improvements on the 05. It was really hard to leave without a new car.

if i had to choose between those two, i would buy the mach1 (it seems i'm the only one). it's a future collector car, and the shaker kicks ****

The Mach 1 won't be a collector car in the future. We aren't in the 60's again, and if you want a newer collectible mustang, the Cobra R's are the car in the Ford lineup that has a chance of ever appreciating in value.

shelby I beg to differ..... There were four times the mach 1's made in the sixties. I garuntee they will be collectors cars in 30 years.

Define collector car.

You can't compare a 428CJ Mach 1 with the Mach 1's of today. No comparison. Plus, if you think someone is going to pay over MSRP for a mach 1 as a collector car in 30 years, you are grossly mistaken.

The cars of the 1960's are collectible for a variety of reasons, most notibly, nobody was collecting back then and people just drove the cars, and everyone and their brother collects now.

Cars are terrible investments these days, and I don't care if it's a Mach 1 or Bullitt, these cars will never sell above their sticker price in the future like the cars of the 50's and 60's do. They hold may well depreciate at a slower rate, and sell for a tad more than other cars, but collectible or valuable, they will be not.

It all boils down on how you define collectible, but if you view collectible as increasing in value over what you have in the car, don't hold your breath.

Don't take offense to this, as it's not meant as an angry post, but you have to be realistic about the expectations of the car market in the future.

To answer the original posters question, wait for the 2005, as their will still be Mach 1's around, and their prices will drop like rocks once the 2005's hit the lots.

Who's to say if a car will become a collectible 40 years from now? I personaly think it will have a lot more value than your average GT's, but hey that's just me. The Mach I's are very sweet but I agree w/ Amy that I don't like the white too much. If you're really that torn apart you can always wait to test drive one.

I guess I would also have to disagree to some extent. Let's look at a 1965 convertible gt. Right now they go for significantly more than MSRP (Assuming it is in good shape and was kept low miles by someone wanting to collect it). There was even a story on the internet a while back. It was about a fastback that had been so throughly restored. That they turned down an offer of something like
$75k for it. The other thing is. From what I have seen. Many a fool trys to collect a car from the current era (See ZR-1 from more info). The reality is unless you have something extremely rare. There is no point in storing it for 30 to 40 years. Unless you have the ability to store it on your own property. It will cost you more to store than it is likely going to be worth

As far as which car to get. I say get the mach 1. But mostly because I want an 05. And since they will be allocating them in the beginning. The more people I can convince not to get one. The better my chance are.

I would never buy a car with hopes that it is worth money some day. Buy it and enjoy driving it!

There is a big difference between the Shelbys of yesterday and the cars today. Many cars today that are being bought, having fluids drained out, and are then put into storage to be sold in twenty years. I don't think a Mach 1 is going to be rare, or even worth very much down the road. The only car that I can think of that was made in the last twenty or so years that has a chance to hold it's value or be sold at a profit is probably the Gen 2 Viper. Prices on low mile Vipers seemed to have stablized in the 50s for now.

not a question for me. I vote O5 (not redfire though)


I'm so stuck on the new design I spend everyday on this friggin' forum. lol

I do love the mach1 but I don't want to buy a new car with an old body style.
