Bought my Satin GT from Ford of Dublin (Near Oakland) about 2 weeks ago. Initially went pretty good. Went back to dealer (from San Diego) to get Perma Plate put on paint and interior. While there was told I needed to talk to the finance guy again. Had a preapproved loan, but the general sales manager (total jerk) said it wasnt approved. We need to redo the contract. Me and the boss (wife) were very upset, and said we wouldnt redo the contract until capitol one was on the phone to verify what was wrong. The GSM said he'll just take the car back and give us a refund. I think he was upset that we went through internet sales and he didnt get his markup. He pawned us off to another finance manager who also rudely stated she just wants to get there money for the car and we change the contract or turn over the car. I asked how she planned on getting me and my wife back to San Diego and she just stared at me then left the room and brought in some young kid from finance who "deals with capital one". He finally cleared up the problem. Our maintenance package was capped at $1500.00 and we were paying 1730.00 for the 5 year prepaid maintenance. All he needed to do was move 230.00 from the maintenance to the cost of the perma plate and etched windows. He called capitol one who confirmed it. He also showed us the new contract with all the same payments. We finally understood what the problem was and resigned the contract. Needless to say this was not the end of the screwing. After I brought the car back to SD. I was washing off the 7 hours of driving and my wife noticed two nicks in the front drivers wheel. I called the service dept the next day and he wanted some pictures. I emailed them the pictures and told him it looked like it happened when the car was taken through the car wash to be dried. He said the car wash hasn't been used in over a week although me and the salesman saw the car coming out when we walked over to check when it would be ready. He said that since we didnt catch it while we were there he couldnt do anything about it. I told him its not that he couldnt but that he wouldnt. Needless to say Im stuck, but warn all of you to stay away from this place. Its pretty sad the way we were treated AFTER we bought the car.

A warning from a fellow owner. Any way here is a pic of the new baby.

You know, other than those HUGE knicks in the wheel, that car looks pretty nice. Just kidding.

At least you kept the car and didn't fall for that crap. As soon as you said financing a red flag went up. Good job on pursuing the issue and getting it resolved. Now don't ever go back there and you will remain happy!

Sorry you had a problem up here in NorCal. Just curious how you ended up with that dealer since last I checked they were marking GTs up WAY over MSRP? I had thought the supply was better down your way. Anyway, I hope they do the right thing and ship you a new wheel so you don't have to drive all the way up here again (450 miles each way?) to deal with it.

If anyone else is willing to drive a bit or fly in to Northern CA, I recommend The Ford Store in Morgan Hill, CA (20 miles or so south of San Jose). They sell in-stock GTs at $50 below MSRP and I believe have some on order due in soon. For those who want V6s, they sell those at $450 over invoice.

I sold my Cavalier the monday before so I had to get some transportation. I also wanted a premium with IUP. They had the only one availiable I could find from San Diego to Houston. I did get it at MSRP through internet sales so thats what I think upset the sales manager. And no they are doing NOTHING about my wheel. I guess its time to find some 18s. And use these for the SoCal winter (ha ha).

Hi Seahawkstang,

I too ordered my car through the internet from a dealer about 15 miles south of Dublin. The car is now "at the ramp" and should be delivered to the dealer any day. Now I'm getting worried about the same thing happening to me. A payment method was never discussed at the time I ordered the car, and I intend to pay cash. Anyone have any thoughts on this?
--------------------------------------------------------------
Ordered 1/7
Sched. build week 2/28
Built 3/2
As of 3/4, released by the foreign assembly plant
As of 3/6, shipped via rail carrier
As of 3/19, arrived at the ramp

2005 2dr Coupe GT Premium; Satin Silver Metallic; Dark Charcoal
5 Speed; IUP; Anti-Theft; Side Air Bags; Bullitts; Shaker 1000

You might want to PM Karpro for his advice; but this is what I would do if you want to pay cash:

I would e-mail your contact before picking up your car and ask for the out-the-door total including tax & license and say you are paying cash. I would have your bank cut a check for that amount to the dealer.

The dealer may resist (hoping to switch you to a finance deal) saying that you may want to add an extended warranty, perma-plate or whatever so they can't give you a total until delivery. I would tell them "I'll bring a check for the amount of the car, and if I want any extras I'll put them on a credit card at the time of delivery". That leaves them with hope they'll sell you more, and a way to pay if you do want to buy add-ons while still allowing you, not a finance company, to hold the title to the car.

BTW, if you ordered from Magnussen in Newark (AKA Fremont Ford), do a search for M1Rifle's experience with them. It will give you an idea of what to expect.

I've had my GT for a couple of weeks, and yesterday received a Customer Satisfaction Survey from Ford, asking about my experiences with the selling dealership. Fortunately, I had an excellent experience, and said so on the survey.

I wonder how many surveys Ford gets returned where the response is just the opposite? My dealer told me that Ford takes these surveys seriously, and will adjust alotments based on customer feedback.

Just a comment.
