Dash rattle/squeak problem still...
OK, first of all, I've searched.
Now, I have the dash rattle or as I prefer to call it, squeak problem on the passenger side behind the glove box. Several folks have complained about it before, but if anyone has fixed it, they haven't posted the results. This squeak happens as the car is getting jostled going over bumps and rough highway. It is not related to engine RPM or vehicle speed. I have checked for any loose metal, change, watches, etc. throughout the glovebox, center console, under the seats, etc. I have taken 3 different people on rides to have them attempt to determine the location of the dash squeak, they all point to the same location.
Now, other than taking the car to the dealership to have all the mechanics take my car on hour long joyrides, what is the problem?
"Uh, sir, we still can't hear it. I just dropped off Jim, Bill and Mike from this test run and am picking up Bob, Harry and Kevin to take them out for an hour or so to see if they can hear it. You want any McDonald's or anything while we're out?" :notnice:
My temporary fix is to turn up the stereo, which does a darn good job of getting rid of the noise. However I only have so many cd's and I do like to turn the radio off and listen to the motor quite often, so I need to do something. I would prefer to fix this myself if anyone has identified the offending parts that are rubbing together. Anyone have any info for me?

I just took mine to the dealership for the second time, to try and get it fixed. I will pick it up this afternoon, so I will let you know if they really fixed it.
You might want to check this thread (guess you might have missed it on the search..) On it, AJStang says:

The rattles in the dash are now gone. It looks like there was some improper installation of insulation around the vent tubes within the dash. Also I was told a fix for the harmonic vibration should be out by the end of the month. A Ford engineer was there to look at the dash rattle as well as the harmonic vibration. Believe it or not I was told by the dealer that it looks like an issue with the transmission. The dealer thought it was coming from the exaust, but he did confirm it was transmission related. I thought he was referring to the transmission mount bracket. That has already been installed on my car. The dealer said it is transmission related as per the engineer. If I hear anything new I will keep you posted.
There is a rattle/squeeking noise that I noticed and was able to fix it. It's where the passenger side top dash edge meets the a-pillar. There is definitly rubbing there. I put a very small piece of black foam between the two -- you can't even see it, and the rattle is gone. Investigate this and it may solve your problem.
Took the car in today for it's first oil change and to fix this issue. Service guy went on a drive with me and thought it might be coming from around the shock tower. After we got back to the dealership he reached up under the passenger side front fenderwell and started tapping his hand on the inner fenderwell liner and viola, there was the squeak.
From what he explained, it was just one of the clips that holds the inner fenderwell on, they removed everything, tightened it up and the squeak is gone. I'm so happy I could crap.

No more rattle! and the black foam you can barely see it unless you're looking for it.
