Oh. My. God!!!

I guess I should pay more attention to what I'm typing!

But then, in a way I guess you were hurt. Fortunately not from a physical standpoint. The hurt is still there seeing your baby like that. But I'm certainly not happy about it.

I suck

On the cast wheels, well theyre cast wheels...years back, we used to run cast at work, if a lathe crashes, or one rolls off a bench, expect chunks to break out...the forged wheels, even the super thin Lamborghini or 20" Shelby wheels could be twisted like a pretzel without a single crack...if folks realized the ductile vs. brittle/expensive vs. cheep sides of the forged/cast decision, a lot more would want forged...my boss told me years ago if you could machine a forged wheel for free, it would still cost 2~3 times a finished cast wheel...cast wheels get 2~3 pounds skimmed away, where forged might have 50+ pounds to take out...even if the forged price 'sounds' expensive, in reality I bet cast is a far higher profit margin for manufacturers...I was told some of the die sets for the forgings were over 1/4 million a set, and they do wear...

I just wish Centerline or someone in the 2 piece business would stamp a torq-thrust looking center and weld it into a spun rim (like the 'Telstar' style, but more oldschool looking)- would be a cheap/goood looking, yet still not brittle wheel...
This.

Sucks you got a ticket too man, I don't think you should have (by CA law at least).

And this goes to show replica vs. OEM wheels too. Tire shops in my area always try to steer me away from the "online replica" wheels. They aren't crash-tested like OE wheels. Kinda like fake Nike shoes look like Nikes, but they don't feel the same and are uncomfortable. Not sure if that's a good example, but either way I'm still going to get replica wheels eventually, but I know what I'm in for. I'm glad your okay bud! Hope you get her fixed or get a new ride out of it...

Man, that is a bummer...but glad you are OK! The car is replaceable, you are not.

Now is a good time for some sweet aftermarket rims and a body kit!

Roush? Cervinis? GT500 nose? Lots of rim choices.

Often times the insurance parts $$$$ will pay more than the aftermarket stuff costs...don;t know how it works on Mustang stuff.

Also, if you want OEM parts, check these guys out...perhaps they can save you some cash.

They buy their parts from places like Roush that modify new cars.

That cop is lame for giving you a ticket.

I can only hope this happens to him for his Karma payback:

Ya I won't be going replica again, need to find a midground better wheel with the width I want without breaking the bank. Temporarily I might put 18" factory bullitt style on it, that a friend offered just to get it home.

As far as the ticket, it stinks but I accept it and have nothing against the officer, he responded quickly, ensured everyone's safety and was very professional. He should never have had to respond, so I take full responsibility.

I will be considering GT/CS parts, the autobody shop said Ford pieces are easy replacements any cost over the GT part would be my responsibility. I am not a fan of the GT500, Roush or Cervini.. the only one I do like is the Saleen Parnelli/Heritage but I don't think I'll shell out that much extra.

Yes, I made sure to discuss that specifically. He understood how **** I am about the car, that I pay attention to every detail and I expect him to do the same, and inform me about everything. I have good reviews about the shop from other stang owners, and he was very open about discussing things, further questions, decisions, etc.

Have them tear apart the diff. Likely the diff is damaged. I got whacked on my old Wrangler on the driver's front. The shop thought the front diff was fine. 1 week after getting the jeep back, the whole front end locked up tight. I was driving down the highway when it happened. Not fun.

Regarding the wheels, yes, cast aluminum is brittle vs. forged. But there are benefits. Cast being more brittle, if you curb a rim, will just roughen up the edge, a forged rim will bend. Repairing a bent forged rim is far more expensive then cleaning up the lip of a cast rim with curb damage. In your case, the rim simply would have bent in like spaghetti. either way, the rim would be damaged so I don't see what everyone is so scared about.

First off, glad your ok. Dang shame to have that happen, but life often makes left turns on you... sorta literally here... but the important thing is you are ok.

You are an honorable person, and I respect your decision regarding that. And truly, I, nor any others here were not there to witness the conversation between you and the officer, so in context, our opinions might be different.

However, there is no chance that I would have accepted the ticket for a proper merging technique ruined by a near hit and run Lincoln, nor for the fact that it's possible for any car to have spun out, that it's yours makes not a difference one. I would have taken it, but I would have voiced my opinion regarding it... to the point of perhaps being arrested to make the point. But then, I'm pretty good argumentatively speaking... I don't like injustice, and this is one of them. I would be *livid* at the implication I screwed up when I clearly *did not.*

Further, the description of events clearly indicate what happened. You should at least fight it, and then appeal that if needed. There's no excuse to accept a bad ticket. None. And I'd be doing that. The officer might be nice, and you're grateful he responded, but whether it's him, his department, or the city making the ticket happen, it's hoping you don't fight that's what they're after. Free money. Well, sorta... they paid the officer, the court... so if they get it, most of it's gone. But you get what I mean, I'm sure.

Please don't go that way. Please fight it.

And now, off my soap box. Again, truly glad you're not hurt.

Saw it Friday in tear down mode (they've seen me 4 days in a row, think they get the idea how **** I am about the car? lol). They said it's in better condition than I thought, it measures out so "Flesh wounds". The rear quarter comes in Monday, they really think when they cutout the damaged quarter it will release that wrinkle near the top... they're hoping to not cut up that far. I have to give them a decision about CS bumpers on Monday, probably yes just want to make sure their pricing includes the other parts not just the covers themselves. They still need to tear down the suspension, again less damage than they were thinking. At least rear shock is toast from the rim breaking off and denting it in. I made sure to mention to REALLY check all the bushings. Hard to tell if the Panhard was bent, they'll get the straight edge on it when it is off. Still trying to hammer out the aftermarket part costs with insurance, think my policy has a certain amount above stock parts but I may have to kick some in. I also talked to them about respraying my GT500 spoiler, which always looked "off" color wise.

So, still suuucks the car was damaged but it's not twisted up, and it will get bumpers I like and a matched spoiler. Wheels & tires I'm still thinking on, I'll roll it out on the factory 18" bullits. It may go straight to winter storage after this.

On the CS bumpers, make sure they order the accessory part number (from the Ford Accesories Catalog) and NOT the collision part number. There is a significant price difference, especially on the rear cover. If they order the accessory part numbers, they will probably be less than the regular GT collision replacements.

Have part numbers by chance?
