I was out and about this afternoon restocking my sadly empty house.
I passed the local buy at auction, general you wouldn't want it and sell high car lot(crossroads auto) BUT they look pretty....
Out front there is a white GT VERT! My local car dealer has only two v6 verts. How the frig did they obtain this one? This dealer isn't even a ford dealer.
I wonder what its story is?

Mike, you just made the case for the dealer markup. That guy (if he is marking it up over MSRP) and guys like him is the reason dealers do the markup.
Yay. I win. Now if all those others from other threads read this...

I've seen weird crap like this alot. My dealer who had not one single GT for stock through my entire order time, somehow procured a couple of GT's at auction.
My guy didn't even how the heck that happened.
Speaking of markups, I saw the funniest thing out shopping today. A local dealer had a Chevy SSR on display at a local outlet mall. It was filthy, with bird poop all over it and water spots that looked like they were engraved in the paint.
Well, it served them right. It had a $15,999.00 "market adjustment" on it, making the grand total $64,000.00!!
I also saw why dealers still do this! There were 5 people around me that hadn't the slightest clue what a "market adjustment" was

I don't understand it. How can they have a LOADED white Gt vert?
The dealer I go to has two verts- both v6's. They haven't seen a GT since February, and it was a coupe.
I am of course now saving for the gt500 fund. I must have one.

I don't begrudge anyone from making a living, but how can they overcharge like that with a clear conscience. If the person turned around and traded the car back in, would the dealer give him any more than the blue book wholesale? Heck no they wouldn't, and then they would resell it for a huge profit again. I had someone ask me to go into the car dealing business when I got out of the Navy. I just couldn't see myself lying and playing some of the games that the less reputable people in the business do.
I am not saying all dealers are evil. I have woked with some good folks over the years, and rewarded those who were fair and honest with repeat business.
Whether it's the factory, the distribution process or the dealers, I still thinks it is unfair how the cars do not get into the hands of people that ordered them. A first come, first serve system I can understand, but the current process rewards greed and is extremely frustrating.
I am not about to drive to Florida or California and pay an unreasonable markup to get a car not set up the way I want it, when there are local businesses who would like to sell me my car but can't get it. I would just as soon keep my 99 vert, and fix it up.

Other examples of greed. When the Miata came out in 1990, I had to have one (I know, I strayed). The Mazda dealers in the Norfolk area were adding markups to the cars in stock (at least one was up to 50% of the sticker) but would be happy to put you on a waiting list for a car at MSRP. One dealer got a stripper 5 speed the way I wanted it. Over a three day period we sat down, appraised my GT, and discussed the deal. Every time I went there, the price was different because they would jack up the price by adding dealer installed options. Finally I picked one up for MSRP at a dealer who had 6 in the garage to ship overseas. The importer's payment check hadn't been recieved and they finally decided to sell the cars.
