Sorry, but I had to comment on this subject.

I have personally observed the 05 with and without the cover.

My first thought when I saw the engine WITHOUT the cover was......
What is this? A cheap piece of plastic for an intake? Thought of melting plastic running thru my head.... preceded by.... Do I really want a high performance engine that is dependent on a piece of plastic?

My first thought when I saw the engine WITH the cover was......

OH SWEET!!! (followed by the wiping of drool from my face) This is going to be mine! (Long pause dreaming of all good Mustang things ) I cant wait to show everyone my engine. B)
The way the engine looked spoke these words to me:
"I'm strong, I'm proud, I'm a MUSTANG!!

Those side-by-side pictures really tell the story. And for me, it sets the attitude of the whole car. Does Ford want it to be a more refined car with a refined engine, one that would bring pride to the Ford badge, or is Ford just trying to throw something together to get the job done? Show me you're dedicated to the car, Ford, and cover that intake.

I have to agree with covering the engine. It looks too cluttered without it. IMO the cover adds a touch of "My car can smoke your car" under the hood.

I voted for the cover, but that is just because the intake is ugly

I agree with what rhumb said in a previous thread, had some attention to detail been considered when packaging the engine bay, there would be no need for a cover.

Look at the 96-98 Cobra, the engine is gorgeous, with the nice looking intake, there is no need for plastic covers like on the LS1 'vettes and many foreign cars. Engine covers do get in the way and are a pain when you have to do some engine work IMO.

if the intake wasn't covered it could at least be made of aluminum so it could be polished

True BM,

but plastic is cheaper to build and it does insulate better against heat... I will take function over form here though

The non-car guy bean counters won on this! They should offer it with the interior upgrade package if they think offering it as standard will bankrupt Ford. Why is it that no matter how great a car is, ('05 Stang) they feel the need to cheapen something that would have a positive visual effect. :notnice:

I am not crazy about the idea of the cover -- it seems a little to "faux" for something like a Mustang.

I do agree that it looks a little plain without the cover, but the basics look right. I can't help wondering what a set of finned aluminum valve covers (perhaps with "Powered by Ford" on them) would do to finish off the non-covered motor.

That seems more in keeping with the spirit of the car, IMHO.

It just completes the engine to me. Makes it a little special, other wise it is just some old mass produced engine with no personality.

It should be included with the IUP or some other option at a minimum. Looks too good to be completely left out.

Well, so far over 50 people have voted for the cover. If we all buy an '05, that's like $1.25 million of 'Stang sales. Hear us, Ford!

I have to go with the cover. I don't normally like the large engine covers that make it so you can't even see the engine. But in this case, it's done in good taste and looks good.
