I think this part of the article is funny.

Residents “are going to say, ‘We don't want our taxes to buy something like that,’â€
Considering that it doesn't cost any more than the Crown Vics, what exactly is the problem?

Its $1,200 more then the Crown Vic and has more bang for the buck

Just based of retail MSRP:

Mustang GT Base: $26,565 bone stock W/TC
Crown Vic Base: $25,310 bone stock w/TC

I have no idea how much it costs to retro-fit the cars with all the police toys.

The stripes aren't really working with the ghost car image. I'd see that car a mile away!

"Because it is faster than the other police cruisers, the Mustang GT will be used to rush ahead of car chases and let officers lay down spike strips."

Nice to know that my car is faster than a police cruiser. And to think, I was just about to test that theory out on my drive home from work today. B)

Where did you get those numbers and what is TC? The base Mustang GT is less than that. $25,570 to be exact.

I like the quote "To be in this car is a lot of hard work, a lot time away from family, going to school and training". I understand about the hard work (we had to pay lots of $$$ for the car) and time away from family (who wants to be with family when you can be driving?), but going to school and training? Maybe training and school are part of getting a GT, I only have a V6. I'm just kidding BTW in case anyone is offended.

True... but you'd never guess it was a cop until it was too late.

Maybe it's just me, but shouldn't a police mustang be white and black? Also shouldn't it NOT have racing stripes? I kind of like the fact that police would have mustang GT's. I think they'll lay off of Mustangs if they're driving them also.

If everyone remembers the California Highway Patrol first used Mustangs in 1982 as high speed interceptors. Here in Oklahoma the Okla. Highway patrol used them as well. Most recently OHP has used some tricked out Camaro's. Now that Camaro's aren't available, the Mustang seems to be the logical choice. I'm ready to see one in "Black & White" with a big star on the door!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A black and white Police Mustang would be nice alright, but the whole purpose of these police stangs are to blend in and even instigate racing... leading to very costly tickets and even jail time.

Edit: On another note, and nothing against cops, but why would a cop risk his own life (as well as the life of anyone around) racing with someone? That doesn't seem right. Not only could you argue in court that the cop had disregard for public safety, but there could be an arguement there for entrapment. I can understand the cop pulling up on the side of someone and if that person wants to peel off and race... maybe let them go for a little while to get a more significant ticket... but not race the guy and even 'smoke' him.

this is bull shi t, it's called entrapment, the suspects getting pulled over can easlily fight the citation and the arrest.

I think it depends on who starts the race. I'm guessing the officer is not allowed to taunt anybody into racing. He may only be allowed to drive up to stoplights like anybody else and act normal, and if the other driver starts to rev his engine and gives the go sign, then its their fault for starting it.

I don't know your laws there, but in Canada, something someone does is not entrapment, if it is something you would normally do.

For example, in the above case, the person would have raced the mustang regardless of whether or not the driver of the other mustang was a police officer, or not.

It is also the same reason that hookers can not use entrapment as a defence in sting operations.
