I think a vert is just an easier target but like you said, if they want to break into your car, they'll do so regardless. I had a '92 vert and never was broken into, I also had a '95 wrangler which was left alone as well. But I had a '91 and '92 Legend coupe which were both broken into and both stolen (seperate occurences).
You can always get a remote starter for your car. A coworker has one and she can call her car from from any phone worldwide and it will start it. She'll call 15 minutes before she arrives at her station stop on the train. Cools it down in the summer before she gets off the train or warms it up in the winter.
Get whichever color your wife likes the best.
