Convertible too tight in the cold

Lately the temperature here has been dropping to the mid 40's. I love the cold weather, and enjoy driving with the top down in such temperatures but my vinyl top is not cooperating. The cold makes the top very tight and it almost jams midway while opening. When I finally get it down it will rest about 3 inches higher than normal. The motor isn't able to open it anymore. I then have to physically (gently) push the top down all the way. Is this normal or is my top tighter than average? Should I take her to the dealership? The top opens just fine when the temperature is in the 60s.

The vinyl top is effected by the cold more than a cloth top. Vinyl will shrink in colder weather and that is the reason why your top opens and closes with little effort in the summer, but needs a little help in the winter. It's the same thing that happens with vinyl tonneau covers for trucks. I used to hate to have to unbutton my tonneau cover on my truck in the winter because I knew I would have a hard time trying to snap it back on because it would shrink so much. Theres nothing wrong with your top, its normal.

Agree. The vinyl cover on my truck goes on like butter when it's warm. Near impossible when it's near freezing. Has to be something similar with a vinyl convertible top.

I guess my top is fine then. I can see how the cloth top won't shrink as much, if at all, in the cold. The vinyl shrinks like wool in a dryer.

I believe the user manuel states you shouldn't put the top down below 60 degrees for this reason.
