Cleanning Exhaust Tips
#5
I wonder what type of SS they are T-304 should not turn brown, so obviously it's a lesser grade. I personally would not use a SOS pads. First try a common mild scratch removal(Meguiars)... If that does't work, then maybe a metal cleaner.

you waited till they turned brown to ask this question? mine are never dirty, try using a rag and a little car wash soap, if that doesnt work try noxom, availible anywhere cleans any metal

I've always used the Meguairs Cleaner polish on the tips.No straches and they buff right up.Just wash them first, apply the polish until it becomes transparent, then buff. Eazy weezy
Use -00-very fine steel wool, use window wash for a lubricant-wash then scrub up.I used to use this steel wool on dingy glass on older cars that had been sittng for years. It would never scratch the glass.

It's T-409, if I recall correctly. I've seen polished T-304 turn brown though.

Boltzman... I got my attention... why did you use sandpaper? I noticed that on the inside of my Stingers, close to the tips, they have a bronze tint. Wonder why ? My Flows were not like that.... they're brand new! Can this discoloration be removed?

So it's winter and I haven't stayed on top of keeping the Stinger's tips clean so they have a good deal of black soot on them. Is the consenus here that SOS pads are safe or not? I'm fairly sure soap alone isn't gonna cut it at this point.
