Well your car looks very nice! Does it have red interior?

I do have a question for you though. Please take no offense. I ask this because you stated that you were considering an 05 Mustang and because you are still a member here.

Why did you get the GTO? Because of the extra HP or because you liked the looks/design better tham the Mustang or both? Be honest with me though. Dont worry what others may say. Either way I will respect your answer.

Enjoy that nice ride.

First I want to say thanks for not insulting my ride. I know that I am in Stang country and I really appreciate you being so kind to me.

Ok here the scoop. (no pun intended)

I like Mustang's Exterior better
The design of the 05' is VERY nice!
I also like the Stock/Regular GT wheels (They look like Cragar's)

but...

I like the GTO's Interior a lot! (Yes it has red leather interior
But biggest of all I like the performance. (Not to say Stang GT does not have any)
The GTO has an LS2 engine (used in 05' Vette's),
Huge Disks Brakes (12.6" vented disks),
Tremec 6-speed transmission,
Nicely Tuned exhaust,
and IRS suspension

I think the Stang GT and GTO are both great cars and both have different qualities.

Well we are glad to have you here. Like I said your ride is a nice one and I wont argue with the fact that the performance of a GTO is much stronger than the Mustang GT. Anyone with a small portion of a brain can figure that one out.

Let me also say that you got your moneys worth with 30 grand (thats my understanding of the price for a GTO). The reason I say that is because Ford will be coming out soon with the Shelby that will be pushing 400-450 HP. For 15 grand more than the GTO. Anyone looking for performance will go with the GTO IMO. Ford has added a few extras in the cobra such as all leather interior, leather dash, and a few minor changes to the body.

Anyways, I am glad to see that your happy with your car.

I get to have the best of both worlds. I have an 04 GTO, only 350hp LS1 though, and I just put my order in yesterday for an 06 GT convertible. The GTO interior is definitely nicer than the Mustang, but the exterior design and price point of the Mustang is way ahead. Performance wise, they are both in the same ballpark, which is to say very good.

The only cars I worry about on the street are (in stock form): Mach 1, C6 Vette and C5 to a lesser degree, and the one that worries me the most is this years 300hp 350Z. Excellent handling, very good power to weight ratio, but it should be as it is more expensive (especially the convertible.)

The GTO looks too much like a Grand Prix. I should know, I had a 2000 Grand Prix GTP and the front end of the GTO looks soooo much like it. Too bad, I had expected a GTO to look more like a musclecar.

uhhh..... ok...
you know there is a 6.0L LS2 under the hood....
Just for your info those aren't exactly quiet...
Same engine as in 05' Vettes.
I test drove a GT back in Jan. and to be honest it was very quiet. Just a little louder than the 04'. (Which is not loud at all).
I mean a car that goes 0-60 in 4.6 secs is not going to be quiet. 12.92 1/4mile, trap speed of 109.7. The car is neither quiet nor slow.
Mabey u got some gunk in your ears?
I know that you are a mustang fan... and i really dont expect you to like the GTO...

But dont lie and say its quiet!
My friend has an '04 GTO and he said he test drove the '05. He said he tthinks the '04 is louder than the new one. So the new exhaust might be quieter even thhough it has a 6.0L in it. But I heard the '04 5.7L...darn that tihng is loud. I still prefer my stang though.

The GTO is a good buy at those prices....But thats what you get when GM is laying off 28,000 workers, has a billion dollar deficit in a quarter, cancelled plans for further rear wheel drive platforms, and has to price a car thats not selling for well less than they would like.....
Great time to own a GTO if you want one.....It's a buyers market....
Good luck with your car man...For me, it's all about the Mustangs...

Sounds terrible compare to the '04. I'll upload my friends clip tonight. Plus where did you learn how to rev? Sounds like you didn't put it past 2k RPMS.

They changed the exhaust on the 05 GTO. On the 04, its duals all the way back and they blocked off the crossover tube, so it has a deep sound at idle but has a nice roar to it when you open it up. Also, when decelerating in gear, it gives you some nice burbles and pops.

The 05 they went to some kind of dual pipes that run through a single resonator. When the pipes run through the resonator they are perforated, giving you some type of crossover affect. Not sure why they did this.

So... When Robertt and David are talking about performance, they are really talking about HP, right? We aren't talking about driving performance, are we?

A guy I work with just got his new GTO (I guess they are offering huge discounts on them). I got to drive his and he got to drive mine. His was louder, we both agreed on that. We also both agreed that my GT vert felt stiffer and handled better than his. His GTO felt pretty front heavy and a bit soft over all. We also both agreed that my GT felt lighter. The GTO had gobs of off-the-line power and torque. It was impressive, but I don't know if it felt A LOT more impressive that the GT.

At the end of the day he summed it up pretty well when he said "yeah, she's kind of sleeper" when referring to his car. The look of the GTO is (unfortunately) very contemporary Pontiac. The Mustang stands out from a mile off. The GTO has a better chance of catching people off guard at the light.

I prefer the look and feel of mine. He is happy with his.

(He doesn't troll Mustang boards though. )

I have seen and heard a few GTO's and granted it has great HP it just has a terrible look. Even though they finally started putting the hood scoop on... it just wasn't enough for me.

Now I heard one just the other day driving by my house and yes it got my attention and did sound a little louder then a stock GT...still wouldnt by it.

Now getting off topic since "exhaust sound" is being mentioned alot, I would love to post a dyno run of my dad Trans AM WS6. He has just about everything you can think of done to the engine putting out 650rwhp. It sounds so freakin agry.

If it alright with you guys, once he gets it back and dyno i will post dyno run.

Try and guess what this sound clip is from. I'll give you a hint, it's much cheaper, faster, and redlines at 15,500rpm

Dyno wav file

don't know what motor it is, but you let up off of it just in time...sounded like you were ready to eat a valve. jackg 90seville 97k

GTO = V8 Cavalier. Lol. Looks like every other Pontiac on the road. How do I tell if its a GTO or not? I look for two doors.
