changing coolant?

Anyone change coolant in a 05-07? Is it difficult to get the air out?...is there a valve to bleed the system?

Why would you need to change it?

Alot of folks flush the system yearly. Many also desire to run a 25% coolant / 75% water mix and a bottle of wetter for better cooling.

You should change your coolant at least every couple of years. Old coolant actually becomes somewhat corrosive over time.

Right, but his is an 07, no need to change it yet unless he is doing some major mods like a blower or something, requring extra cooling.

You don't know what he's doing. That's kinda the point, he's simply asking how.

With that said, I believe it's no different than any 4.6 currently from Ford.

I added some water wetter to my coolant mix and now I'm getting some unwanted residue in the coolant tank. I'm not sure if there is a compatibility issue with water wetter and the motocraft premium gold coolant, but I don't want to take any chances. I used water wetter in my 03 stang and never had a problem with this. I just want to flush it out and go back to the factory fill.

You probably don't want to add anything to the coolant Ford now uses except maybe fresh water. This is not your ordinary antifreeze system. And its good for quite a long time. You are probably wise to change it out now. You will need to get the system absolutely clean again ... advice I was given by a Ford service tech, as I was looking to put the Gold stuff in my 98 Contour SVT.

I think the cooling systems in todays cars are very goog at venting trapped air. So I would not think draining and refilling would be that difficult

Given you may have contaminated the system though, you might be better off asking you Ford dealer to flush and refill for you.

Just a thought.

If you have the Gold Premium Coolant (comes with GT)...it is good for 4 years or 100K miles...you can count on it...change it at 3 years if you want to.
Lots of cars have the extended life coolant now (GM started that back in the mid-90's with Dex-Cool and the Europeans have been doing it a lot longer). Dex-Cool is good for 5 years and/or 150K miles...I usually have mine changed out at 4 years.

If you have the standard green coolant...then you should change it out every 2 years and/or 36K miles...

P.S. your dealer has the Premium Gold Coolant for about $15/gallon...keep it on hand if you should have to refill the resevoir (i.e. keep it at the prescribed level when cold)...be sure to mix it 50/50 with distilled water (not tap water)...
