By contrast I took my car into for it's first oil change today; with 3500 miles on the clock it had not used any oil. Service manager also said it was the first mustang he has seen with just as much wear on the front tires as the rear. lol, I don't beat on it much.

I would stay with the 5w-20 Craig just in case.

Well, here is the latest and greatest. My car is still smoking on start up. I starting thinking back to when this issue starting getting ugly. It was right after I powder coated my cam covers. There was a small green plug inside the drivers side cam cover that seals the metal breather tube where it passes into the riveted baffle or splashguard. I removed it before powdercoating because I thought it would melt. (It has to be cut out and cannot be reused) I remember someone posting on here that they left theirs out as well with no ill effects. (Can't find the thread now) Long story short, I pulled the breather tube out from the cam cover and there is quite a bit of oil in the line. That hose runs straight to the intake and there is oil there as well. I am wondering if this is where my smoke is coming from. I am going to pull the cover and seal the opening with RTV and see what happens. Has anyone else seen oil in this hose?

That sounds like a motor with a lot of blow by. Or the pvc is plugged. (or whatever the mustang is using for crankcase venting)

If your attempts at solving the problem don't work I would replace the cam covers with stock ones before you have to take your car in for service again. From the horror stories I've heard, Ford could deny coverage on your engine if you've changed any of the parts on it.

The cam covers are stock, they are just powdercoated. The dealer I am using is does not have an issue with the mods on my car although I'm sure if I took it in with with the rods hanging out of the block and a (insert your favorite power adder here) it would be a problem.

Well, it seems between replacing cylinder number two's fuel injector and sealing that passage in the cam cover, has eliminated all of the smoking issues. I have put several hundred miles on the car with no signs of any smoke and no oil consumption. (I think that was a fluke) I have decided to sell the car so I can buy a more practical daily driver. I have had this car for a year now and have only put about 4400 miles on it. My other car is a 98 Honda Accord that absolutely bores me to tears every time I drive it. I guess it is time to move on. I think I will give ebay a shot. Thanks for everyone's help!

Lets get this right.

You have had the car for a year, done a bunch of mods, got your smoking problem fixed and after putting 4400 miles on it your going to sell it now for a more practical daily driver!

Doesn't make much sence to me.

I think the pain of dealing with the dealership was not worth it anymore...

Lots of things I do don't make sense to others. Just ask my wife. I just don't get the enjoyment out of the car that I thought I would. I have gone through a lot of cars in the past several years. I bought the Mustang after I gave up Motorcycling. I thought it would be a good replacement that the whole family would enjoy. It just did not work out that way. I will miss the car when it is gone, but I really need something to drive everyday that is practical and still keeps the car enthusiast in me entertained. In a perfect world, I would keep it, but I can not have both. I was extremely frustrated with Fords customer service and the first dealer that I used for service. The whole attitude of "there is nothing wrong with your car" when even a non-mechanical, non-car enthusiast could see there was obviously a problem, did not sit very well with me. However, I will say that the service I received at Bill Talley Ford was great. The service manager himself followed up about a week later to see how the car was doing. There was no B.S. about my mods causing the problems like Ford was already starting to lean toward. I would highly recommend them to anyone who needs service in the Richmond, VA area.

I'm glad you got the problem taken care of, but sorry to see you sell the car now that you got the problem taken care of. I'm curently driving a Honda Accord Coupe. It is a higher quality car than the Mustang in my opinion, since I've owned Mustangs too, I agree with you. It is a boring car. Just curious though, what are you looking at that will provide an enjoyable driving experience and have quality dealer service? If you haven't looked at a G35 coupe, it might fill some of the void left by parting with the Mustang.

If you are looking for practical and a blast to drive I definately recomend the Mazdaspeed 6. Not quite as fast as your mustang, but 4 doors, a real trunk, 6-speed manual, 274 Hp and 280 ft-lb torque and all wheel drive. The system will even let you kick the back end out if you turn off the stability control. And it won't be much more $$ than your Mustang.
Only thing.... if you live where you get snow you MUST get winter tires or at least all seasons.

Ive noticed my car is puffing a cloud of blue smoke at startup as well. Question.
Sounds like it could be an injector leak down problem? I don't understand it though as the injectors on that engine are not oil fired like my 6 liter truck. I don't get how oil can get from the injectors (which have no oil) into the cylinders. How does an injector that injects fuel inject (leak oil) into the cylinder?

I've seen other comments on the puff of smoke at startup. It could be coming from the valve stem seals. You're right. I don't think injector leak down would result in blue smoke.
