Well as of yesterday my car has started pinging. Lately the engine has sounded different to me and has been making some wierd noises. Yesterday it only pinged when it got up as high as 5500 rpm. Today it got worse and started pinging around 3000 rpm. I do have the car tuned for 93 octane, and do have 93 octane in the tank. When I take off the tune, the pinging stops, but the engine just doesn't sound normal. I've had the tune for a couple months and have never had this problem. As for right now I'm just going to keep the PCM at the stock tune, but does anyone know what might be causing this?? Thanks for any help.

bad gas. what company are you using? with the gas problems as of late im sure theres ppl out there selling lower octane gase like 87 and disguising it as 93. the price increase alone plus their price gouging alone makes that very tempting.

I've been staying consistent with Shell gasoline, and my most recent fill up was with Shell 93. Before the last shell fill up however I had to fill up at a mom and pop gas station since everyone was out of gas.

Mine has been pinging the past tank or two of gas also. And I get gas at the same place pretty consistantly. Honestly, I considered the fact that those price gouging bastards were selling less than the advertised quality of fuel for the inflated rates they have been charging.

shouldn't our computer's knock sensors figure out the pinging, and lower the timing?
