So I am driving in Columbus, going down a busy street and my car says to check charging system, then my battery indicator drops all the way down, lights shut off, radio shuts off and once I got in a parking lot I shut her off to see what was up.... didnt start back up. Had it towed to the Ford lot, next day they call me and tell me the alternator went bad.......@ 2,300 miles. So now i have this dang focus they gave me as a loaner...ahh it sux to go from a mustang to a focus, lol :bang:

They gave you a focus while they do an alternator swap? sounds fishy to me... unless they're swamped with cars, I wouldn't think it would take a dealership longer then an hour at most to swap one out.

Most likely there are not a lot of alternators out there and it had to be special ordered.

I hope an alt had to be ordered, it's not even an hour job. At a flat rate shop the tech would have that thing in and out w/an electric impact ratchet in 10 minutes.

Just bad luck I guess.

I wonder if it is that easy? It's under the throttle body now . . . could be a tight fit. I'm sure an alternator had to be ordered. It's not like they are going to be stocking them for such a new car. I wonder why it failed so soon?

The only bad part is the battery was run dead. That shortens the life a little. You'll have to find a way to get it waranteed just before 3/36.

Alternators go bad all the time... even in new cars... it can be very common... very easy fix luckily... I had to replace the alternator in my Z71 and a week later the new one went out... just depends i guess...

Be sure they replace it and not rebuild it.
