Agreed, decent jacks and stands are not that expensive. I have a craftsman floor jack that my Dad gave me over 25 years ago and it still works just like it did on day 1.

What they said!

PS, buy quality your life may depend upon it. I had a friend die under a car because of a jack stand. Buy quality.

well looks pretty unanimous, go easy on the poor guy thogh he did say safe.

Dont buy one if its not on sale though, and that goes for all craftmans stuff, it all goes on sale eventually.

I needed a jack and didnt have a choice paid I think 100 bucks for it, the next weekend it was on sale for 69, and the weekend after that 100 bucks and it came with 2 jackstands

I work at Sears. If its not on sale this week it will be the following week etc... Theres ALWAYS a sale, go figure. You can always ask for any open box/return/closeout items also. They always carry the same warrenty new items do.

Sears policy allows you to get upto 30days to get a sale price if you paid retail or higher then the current sale. If you paid 100$ and next weekend it was 69$. Bring the reciept and get the sales adjust.

The Craftsman jack andstands seem to be the way to go.

What weight rating is best for working on the Stang? 1.5, 2. 2.5 ton?

Do most of you have aluminum jacks?

Do not get the aluminum jack unless you want to pony up for a really well made one. I went though 3 Craftsman aluminum jacks. They all failed the same way. The valve seats are aluminum as they are machined into the base of the jack. Over time the valve leaks and the jack will not stay up under a load. Cannot be trusted. There are better aluminum jacks that do not have this problem but they are not in the $200 price range. Add a zero.

Bought Craftsman's 4 ton ultra low profile jack a few months ago and while it is heavy, its the best jack I have ever used. raises to the load very quickly and then lets you lift the load. easy to control lowering as well and the first jack I have owned that I can lift my Shelby without driving it on blocks first, it can get under the side jacking rails without help.

Just bought this package at Sears: http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1...Lift+Equipment

It's pretty nice for $99. Very sturdy. Plus having the creeper is very nice.

The heaviest rated jack the better, and make sure it's low profile or it won't fit underneath
