Buy a Mustang GT without a test drive?
#42
I was hyped to buy early in 2004. Then I saw the two test mules at the Mustang 40th Anniversary show in Nashville in April, 2004 but didn't get any closer than about 2' away. So, naturally I ordered one on June 1, 2004. I did get to sit in another demo version when the promo caravan came to town in late July. Finally, my car arrived on October 27 and the wife and I went round to pick it up the next day!
The salesman suggested I test drive it before I signed on the dotted line - so I did and was ecstatic! it had 8.3 miles on it when we took it out. About 1.5 hours later we drove it home! Incidently, the Mustang is a great road car - we just returned from the round trip to Birmingham for the MCA 35th Anniversary show. I averaged just below 24 mpg for that adventure! I'm now at just over 17k miles on the clock.

I went to the ford dealership near me and found my wife's uncle worked there as finance manager. He helped me get a smokin deal and then asked me if I wanted it....
I said yes..... (having never even driven the car)... then asked him if it was ok to drive the one they had on the lot (had one stick left) while they did the paperwork.
So essentially i bought one without test driving it first... sorta.
I'm very happy wiht hte car.

I actually did drive a GT, back in ’05 when you couldn’t touch a GT test drive. It was a GT that the dealer ordered and then the buyer couldn’t get financed.
It was raining that day and I was nervous as hell. One minute after I returned, I didn’t remember a thing about the drive
So, yes, I had a “test drive”, but it was meaningless. I wanted one of these, period.
I’ll take any Mustang along with any flaws for the rest of my life over any other car, period. And anything I used to not like about this new Mustang has faded into non-importance.

Both the Roush and the Shelby came straight off the truck to the floor and then to me. Only thing i did was sit in the Shelby - run the shifter and fire it up ---
With only SVT test miles on the clock, that sweet Iron Block DOHC Rumble was enough.
My first Stang was a GT, before the Roush and Shelby, and i drove her for the first time the day i brought her home.

I don't understand why someone would make a $30K purchase without at least a test drive...

Why buy a $30T+ car without a test drive? It's a Mustang.
Just something about a Mustang. When you have wanted one since you were ten years old (like me), and you finally get one 18 years later (like me), you're pretty much set, and there's really not much (like a test drive) that's going to change your mind. By that point, your mind's made up - a Mustang is a Mustang.
Just my 2 cents though.

When I test drove a GT......... you could have been punching me in the face............ and you wouldn t have gotten the smile off my face! The car had every option I want, but Th e Torch(give a ticket!) Red! So I ordered an Alloy.
