In the "old days" when you rebuilt an engine, the box that the rings came in said to take the car on the high way, shift to high gear at 40 mph, and floor the throttle till 60 mph, let off and repeat 3 or 4 times. This would seat the rings. You don't see that on the boxes anymore though.
Really, it comes down to how "round" your "round" parts are. The better the machine work, and the "slicker" the finish is on the cylinder walls, the less breaking in you have to do.
I'd go 50-100 miles, change the oil while the engine is hot, and drive it hard.

I want a $dollar for every driver on here that has not driven a V8 for an extended period of time that DOES NOT burn them off once or twice right after they purchase it.
