Brake Light Issue

Ok, so I'm watching a video I just took of my new mufflers and realize, after 2-5 views, that the inside brake light is out on each side of my ride. The middle and outside lights remain on each side, but inside is out on each side.

I haven't yet pulled anything apart, any idea what could cause this?

Since the light is out on both sides I'm thinking it is probably not just blown bulbs...

TIA

There never is a brake light in the inner part unless you installed an after market kit such as a sequential kit. Only the middle and outer bulbs light for brakes and signals. The inner bulbs are tail lights only. You've had your car a year and didn't know that?

I did not realize that actually.

I never drive behind my car.....

Oh well, thanks for the quick response. I guess we can kill this thread...at least I know there's nothing wrong with the car!

Thanks again!

You are not the only one who didn't know that little fact. I know that several others have asked and I've had people tell me that my inside brake lights are out on my car.

Your thread may help others out later on who think that something is wrong and go ahead and pull the tail lights to replace perfectly good bulbs.

Frankly, I think that's a stupid feature, why have a light that you don't use for braking. Every rear facing light on the car should light up as a brake light...

Oh well, just some more brilliant Ford reasoning...

It's been like that for years. And it's an easy fix if you want all three to light up.

Are you talking about sequentials or something else?

Something else. You can replace the inner most taillight sockets with sockets that have the brake function. You only need to splice one wire on each side and then all three will illuminate in unison.

Do you want more info?

No, but thanks for the offer.

If I'm going to dig into the housing or start buying parts, I'll probably just go ahead with sequentials...

Chrysler socket part number 85885 (pretty sure that's it) will fix the oversight on Ford's part. I've never figured out why they did that either...my 96GT was the same way until I fixed it

Sequentials are the easy solution. And more fun.

The brake light socket probably costs a few pennies more than the plain tail light.
