Brake Fluid AMSOIL

I need a good advise... thinking about changing the brake fluid on my 2008 Mustang. The car needs DOT 3 .. is AMSOIL Brake Fluid a option ? it says Dot 3 /4 and I am not sure if this stuff
will work well. In the past I some some issues with DOT 4 in US Cars... the DOT 4 seems to be more agressive.

Any Ideas ?

Thanks in advance

Juergen

The DOT 4 fluid will have a higher boiling point.
I run DOT 4 fluid in my '13 GT Track Pack, and flush it every 2 years.
If I still autocrossed the car every year, I'd be flushing it at the beginning of every season.
The more frequent need for flushes being the only "con", I recommend DOT 4.

(PM me about pricing on the Amsoil if you want, my wife and I are an Independent Dealer )

Hello Gabe i know that DOT 4 has a higher boiling point. But I am afraid that that DOT 4 could be bad for the rubber parts in the brake system. The cap on the reservoir says DOT 3 ..the manual states Motorcraft DOT 3 Brake Fluid....

I know for sure that the "old " Cars.... 60th..70th..80th .... don´t "like " the DOT 4 Brake fluid. the rubber parts go bad - in short time.

Greetings Juergen

P.S. I use Amsoil in every car I own...also my HD gets Amsoil . That´s why I was thinking about their brake fluid too

Unfortunatly Amsoil is a little expensive over here in Germany - but I think this oil is still worth the money

I'm pretty sure that "DOT 3/4" means that it meets the requirements for both; meaning it should be OK in systems that use DOT3 or DOT4 fluid . . . but I am not positive.

I use DOT4 in my 2010 and my understanding is same as Gabe's -- the main drawback is that it absorbs more moisture than DOT3 and that is why it should be flushed at least once a year.

how long did you use the Dot 4 ? since 2010 ?... or in other words more than 4 or 5 years ? As I told you, I am a little afraid to use DOT4 because the manual states for DOT 3. And I personaly saw Brake systems with damaged rubber seals ... while using DOT4 instead of DOT3 ( but those cars where antiques ..from the 60 th / 70th )

I have been using DOT4 for about 3 or 4 years now . . . unfortunately if it does damage the seals on long term exposure, that might not be long enough to see it . . . but I really don't think there is an issue, all of the road track guys use DOT4 and they have never mentioned that it will destroy the seals . . . I hope!

@ Bert. so I will give DOT 3/4 from AMSOIL a try. The company has a got reputation even here in Germany. And I use their products in all of my toys.

Perhaps Ford still stays with DOT 3 because this Brake fluid allows longer service /change period ?? who knows.... Here in Europe not even one car build after 1980 uses DOT3. all use DOT4 or 5.1
Buying / finding DOT3 is realy difficult - because nobody asks for

Unless the fluid is lying about its specs, which it absolutely should not, the generic brand DOT 3 or 3/4 that any parts store will have would be an excellent call for your system. There's no need to overspend on it. It's brake fluid. They're held to the same standards and practices to even be called DOT 3 or 4. They're all going to eventually be contaminated the same, and work the same. This is one thing I can't say I'd be bothered to spend more for any particular brand except to ensure I don't get water instead.

For what my thoughts are worth on that.

Cool.
You shouldn't need 4 bottles.
Suck out as much of the old fluid from the master cylinder as you can, without letting it go too low, top off with fresh fluid, then start the bleeding procedure, with the farthest wheel first (right rear if the master cylinder is in the left-front of the car).
And keep an eye on the level so it doesn't go too low and you suck air into the system.

I ordered 4 bottles because of the shipping cost. I have an Autel Maxi Check Pro...so I can bleed the ABS block also. to b sure that all the old stuff leaves the brake system
