Are they just gonna sell it in California? As they did in the 60's? I like the idea, but it sorta limits the appeal. I'd like to see some sort of a S.E. vert'.
agreed! some special edition convertibles would be sweet.

Now has anyone considered that it could be a 'pony package' for the GT?
In that its just a visual upgrade to make the GT look more aggressive?
And not an 'actual' SE with different motor etc?

Just a thought.

Thats a good thought. I wouldn't be complaining if it was just an apperance package. did the only CS's have any more power than the GT's in the 60s?

By the way ford did an Amazing job with the V6 pony package, It looks better than the GT. Maybe the CS is how Ford is going to make the GT hotter than the V6 pony.

What makes you think that the CS will be anything more than another V6 appearance package to help sell more V6 Mustangs?

Kind of weak to go the tape stripe route with no real enhancement over the GT.

What's next? The King Cobra II Heritage Edition with full hood black and gold cobra sticker?

No, the GT/CS was available with any of the V-8 engines in 68. So a 68 GT/CS with the 390GT was no more powerful than a standard Mustang with the same engine. GT/CS was nothing more than an appearance package thought up by the California dealers.

Ok, so it's a V8 appearance package.

I think it would be better if they produce Mach 1. Mach 1 was more famous through Mustang's history.

The motors in the GT/CS's were the same ones that came in the standard Mustangs. The whole reason behind the GT/CS was to boost sales in the California area. The did the same with the High Country Special in Colorado (basically a GT/CS but different decals and different colors).

The biggest selling point of the GT/CS in '68 was that it was a cross between a GT and a Shelby. According to the article, they stated that the next GT/CS will be of the same sort, "The California Special Mustang will feature some items from the 2007 Shelby GT500, however, the California Special itself will be based off of a Mustang GT and will be a limited production model." This is essentially what the '68 GT/CS was, the look of a Shelby, with all the GT trimmings underneath.

Yes another Mach 1 would be nice. But it was recently done. To me if they made a Mach 1 on the new Mustangs, it would have the same exterior apperance additons as the 03-04's. It wouldn't be too impressed with it all. "been there done that" deal. I think a Boss would be cool, But if we see a Boss at any point it will most likely be the SVT Boss. Thats just my hunch. The GT-500 is limited production for a couple years right? so whats after the GT-500? SVT Boss would be cool admit it.

I'm not a fan of the CS already for one thing, just because of the fact it seems to me that Ford is kind of dependent on its past. They need a new SE Mustang with a completely new name. I have no idea what, but it would be interesting to see.

Also it was said that the CS in the 60's was a cross between the GT and GT-500. So when I heard that, the first image that came in my head was a current GT with a GT-500 front end. Maybe a Ductail to go with it. That would be cool.

I highly doubt you'll see parts from the Shelby on the CS (at least exterior wise)
Maybe the leather dash or some interior trim, but nothing extravigant. As to not interfere with the SVTs look/exclusiveness.

I think it'll be just a pony package for the GT with some added aggressiveness, like scoops, bigger rubber/rims.

Its only really the second year right now, and they are in NO way hurting for sales yet, so just think of it as an added looks package.... I'm sure the next biggest thing is coming around the corner too....

We can't have it ALL right away.
Considering they mentioned this body style may stay a bit longer than normal (4-5 years)...they'll have to keep interest/looks up within the next 4 years.

Offering the C/S will provide an S/E Mustang without Ford having to expend lots of R&D dollars to develop a totally new model. It will continue to fuel interest and give buyers a visually appealing but less-expensive alternative to the Shelby.

It seems Ford may be waiting to introduce the Mach I, Boss or even GT350 until GM and DC introduce their new "pony" cars in '08 or '09. By that time some of the initial fervor over the Mustang will have subsided and these new direct competitors will be attempting to steal some of the spotlight. Offering a well designed and executed S/E model during a time of competitive introductions will help Ford mute the hype that will certainly surround these competitive offerings.

Good point. And at the very least Ford is trying to keep interest in the Mustang fresh. But, some people are never satisfied, especially if its not a Boss or whatever variation their mind can come up with. Besides, how many of us really can afford the Shelby, much less a Boss variant, which will probably be even more expensive.

It wouldn't take Ford much to SC the 4.6L and add a BOSS or Mach1 paint job to the current Mustang GT and sell it for $32k. Make minor motor and handling changes, give it different leather seats then the GT and be done with it.

Heck, I'll make it easy. Just give the Mustang GT an optional SC 4.6L!!

I never thought of it like that. Ford needs to keeps sales on the Mustang when GM comes with there "pony" cars. It would be in the best interest of Ford to introduce something like the Boss or GT-350 around that time. But It'll have be in the same price range as the new GM ponys and roughly same performance specs. If they go above this they will lose sales to the cheaper GM's. If they can't perform to the new ponys (I'm thinking possible LS2?" GM's will sell and mustang will lose the spot light. But then again GM first has to build a good car. the GTO is fast, but I don't think its the price that is keeping sales down. Just look at the car. Also look at the fact, when the GTO and Mustang were tested together, the mustang wasn't to far behind in the numbers. so why buy a more expensive car that can barely out perform the mustang?
