I just read that and thought they were a little behind with their information . . . .

 

Just my opinion, but think this is a really terrible marketing move by Ford. I think they would sell a great deal more SEs with Boss, Mach 1, GT350, or even a new name rather than a CS. Just seems to me like this won't appeal to the broad segment of society in the same way the other names would.

 

They need to squeeze that source if that actually in fact do have a source. Not much info from that article.

 

Unless it was a limited edition which would make it more valuable down the road.

 

Definitely not the most marketing savy choice, while everyone here is aware of the CS heritage, the casual Mustang buyer is likely unaware of the historical connection and might be puzzled as to it's origin. Boss or Mach would have been a better choice with wider appeal.

 

Are they just gonna sell it in California? As they did in the 60's? I like the idea, but it sorta limits the appeal. I'd like to see some sort of a S.E. vert'.

 

Well...this will get people the concept taillights they want. It will also get some side scoops from Ford.

 

I disagree. I didn't know what Bullitt was until the special edition came out recently. It will just cause people to ask "what is california special" and then they will learn more of the Mustang history.

 

I think as long as the car is done right, the name won't matter AS LONG AS it's not only sold in the CA area. If it's available everywhere just with a C/S name, I don't think it's that big of a deal. Realisticaly, we can't expect Ford to make an S/E with badging for all 50 states. I wouldn't mind owning it regardless of what state it's "inspired" by. Just my opinion.

Not a bad idea, but I seriously doubt it. If the GT500 could not justify the costs needed to swing those tail-lights this car definately cannot.

 

That's a good point but what other styling cues could they take? Hood is similar to GT500 (and the article said it would take cues from the GT500). The ducktail will probably be the same as the GT500. What else is there? The scoops and the tail lights.

Maybe they didn't put the taillights in the GT500 so they could put them in the CS

 

I agree, as long as they issue it as a vert' too. I's be all on it.

 

I'll puke if the California Special is another coupe-only special edition. It's CALIFORNIA people! Land of the sun! No one dreams of cruising the California Coast in a claustraphobic COUPE!

The West Coast-only Mustang GT/California Special was available in 1968. The car was available only in coupe form. The Shelby-inspired car had the same grille, fog lamps, and rear fascia as the Shelby models from that year. "GT/CS" was printed on the Shelby-style side scoops. The wheels were the same as GT wheels, but without the GT center caps. Only 251 High Country Specials were produced, and they were all coupes.
