Somebody said some time back that ford was going to go to a 5-4-1/4 and not the 5-4-1/2 that the mustang has now. That sucks because we can't use the old wheels on it :bang:

You can bet Ford has done the aftermarket a favour. B)

No, thats not a good pattern, and you probably won't see alot of wheels for it. Like when the fox mustang was out the wheel companys did not build alot of wheels for it because it only fit that car. Now the 5-4 1/4 pattern is on the taurus but nobody buys wheels for it.

Maybe but now people cannot reuse old rims and have to buy new ones from aftermarket companies. The mustang rim market is by no means small so I'm not sure the arguement that they won't be able to make a generic rim is that important.

It would not matter if the bolt pattern was the same because the offset is different so you wouldn't be able to use your old wheels anyway.

We don't know the offset of the new car but I would bet it's the same as the mustang now. The mustang now has a + offset wheel on it so I don't see it changing that much on the new car.

Car and Driver explicitly stated that the 05 has a different bolt pattern than the 04

It is different.

Just put a photo of an 05 next to a photo of an 04 and look at the wheels. The increase in offset it obvious.

There is no way to tell offsets from a photo, we'll just have to wait and see.

I guess you could use spacers to make up the difference...

I'll just wait until I get the car and then figure out what fits.

I don't think spacers will work, because the offest is different going the other way. The '05 has a larger offset than the '04, so putting '04 wheels on an '05 would make them stick out too far and hit the wheel wells. So, spacers would make it even worse. As far as I know (heard this by others in a different thread) the '05 has the same bolt pattern: 5-114mm, or 5x4.5". And the '05 offset is 45mm. I believe the '04 is something like 30mm.
